MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech (0-2) dropped an overtime heartbreaker, 1-0, to Colorado Christian (2-0).
Â
Maria Munoz was Tech's main striker as she tallied six of the team's eight shots and the team's only shot on goal.
Mariana Mazzocca and
Jeeda Al-Naber recorded the Panthers other two shots of the contest.
Â
Maria Sanchez Recuero (0-1) put together a herculean effort in goal. The Madrid, Spain, native totaled six saves and held the Cougar's scoreless for 92 minutes before she conceded the contests only goal.
Â
This was a back-and-forth match as both teams could not manage to keep the momentum for long. Despite the shot total, it was largely a defensive battle in which neither team managed to get many clean shots especially during the first 90 minutes. This resulted in a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation and the need for extra time.
Â
Unfortunately, the Crimson and Gray were on the wrong end of the golden goal as the Cougars scored 2:37 into the first overtime period. This loss dropped Florida Tech to 0-2.
Â
Tech will look to quickly shift its focus to their next match against Delta State. This contest will take place in Cleveland, Mississippi, on Friday, Sept. 13, and is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
