CLEVELAND, Miss. – Florida Tech women's soccer hit the road for the first time this season as the team took on Delta State. The Panthers controlled most of the action but could not net a goal which ultimately led to the 0-0 tie.
Freshman,
Mariana Mazzocca, lead the Crimson and Gray in both shots and shots on goal with six and four respectively.
Brittany Etrick was the other member of the team to record multiple shots with two.
Maria Sanchez Recuero (0-1-1) earned her first shutout of the season as she held the Statesmen score for 110 minutes.
Florida Tech dictated the pace for a majority of the game as they outshoot DSU 13-5 in regulation. However, Delta's keeper, Amanda Hilliard was a force in goal as she stopped seven shots which included a Mazzocca penalty kick. This led to the score being 0-0 after 90 minutes and the necessity of overtime for a second straight game for both teams.
The Statesmen began to take the momentum from Florida Tech in overtime but could not manage to break the tie as of their three shots only one was on goal and Sanchez Recuero stopped it from finding its way to the back of the net.
Tech will have another quick turnaround as the women will play Union University. This neutral site match takes place Sunday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. ET on Delta Field in Cleveland, Mississippi.
