CLEVELAND, Miss. – Florida Tech women's soccer (1-2-1) found its stride against the Union Bulldogs (1-1). The final score for the neutral site match was 3-0 in favor of Tech.
The Panthers were the dominant force from start to finish as a plethora of players peppered the goal for a total of 28 shots with eight being on target. The team managed to convert a few of these shots into goals as
Jeeda Al-Naber (1),
Maria Munoz (1) and
Alyssa Bartle (1) were the three women to find the back of the net.
Maria Sanchez Recuero (1-1-1) recorded her second straight shutout as her backline held Union to only one shot on goal.
Florida Tech started out the match on fire as Bartle and
Kiana Zanganeh tested the Bulldogs keeper in the first two minutes of play. The momentum shifted for a few minutes as Union tallied a few shots but Tech snatched it back and held on for the rest of the contest.
The Crimson and Gray broke the scoreless tie at the 39:40 mark as a Union foul in the 18-yard box set up a penalty kick that Al-Naber buried. This was the team's first goal of the year. This score held as the women left the pitch for halftime.
Florida Tech's dominance continued into the second half and this resulted in the second goal of the contest this time it was
Maria Munoz that found the back of the net off a Marian Mazzocca assist. Bartle pushed the score to 3-0 when she powered one into the net in the 84
th minute.
Tech held on to the 3-0 lead as time expired to earned their first win of the season.
The Panthers will be back on the road Thursday, Sept. 19, as the women head to Montgomery, Alabama, to take on the Warhawks of Auburn Montgomery. Kickoff for this showdown is set for 7 p.m. ET at the AUM Soccer Complex.
