Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Panthers Demolish the Warhawks

Florida Tech outshot Auburn Montgomery, 29-14, in the team's 3-1 victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Florida Tech women's soccer hit the road for its third straight game away from Rick Stottler Field. This time the women took on the Warhawks of Auburn Montgomery and found themselves on the right side of the 3-1 score line.

Freshman Mariana Mazzocca earned her first collegiate goal while Maria Munoz netted No. 18 and 19 which ties her with Ericka Hildreth for a share of fifth in Panthers history.

It was a combined effort in goal as Maria Sanchez Recuero and Miranda Choplin both saw time in net. Sanchez Recuero anchored the backline for a majority of the match as she tallied two saves against one goal allowed in the first 67 minutes. Unfortunately, Sanchez Recuero was given a red card so Choplin was called upon for the final 23 minutes of action and during her time she turned away two shots and did not concede a goal.

Tech jumped out to a hot start as the team took three shots in the first two and a half minutes of play. The team continued to put the pressure on the Warhawks and it finally paid off in the 24th minute when Mazzocca found the back of the net off a Munoz pass. The women continued their assault on AUM's goal but went into the half with the 1-0 lead.

The second half began the same way as the first as Munoz score her first goal of the night when she sent a ball pass the keeper and into the upper right corner. Auburn Montgomery cut it to 2-1 only a few minutes late off a successful penalty kick.

Florida Tech's Munoz knocked in her second goal of the contest and third of the season in the 80th minute as she again beat the keeper in the top right corner. This ended the scoring for the contest as Tech came away with the 3-1 victory.

The Panthers look to extend its win streak to three straight Saturday, Sept. 21, when they take on Montevallo. This game is set to begin at noon ET at Georgina Lemak Soccer Field in Montevallo, Alabama.
