MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech men's soccer kicked off its season with a bang as they took down Davenport, 4-1.
Solomon Wheatley was a menace as he netted two goals while
Hugo Lopez and
Luca Campanini each knocked in a goal of their own.
Craig McCall, Campanini and
Ellis Hudson tallied an assist while
Per Henrik Nag was apart of two-goal efforts.
Jason Fesquet earned his first win of the season as the keeper collected two saves against one goal allowed.
Wheatley broke the deadlock about 30 minutes into the match and Lopez made it 2-0 about two minutes later. The score held at 2-0 as the game went into the half.
Florida Tech tacked on an insurance goal about 15 minutes into the second half when a Davenport handball set up a penalty kick that Campanini drilled into the bottom right of the goal. Wheatley then pushed the match to 4-0 off an assist from Hudson.
The Crimson and Gray's shutout came to an end in the 83
rd minute when DU's Justice Sikkema powered one into the back of the net. This was the final goal of the night as the final score was 4-1.
Florida Tech looks to push its win streak to two games when they invite Auburn – Montgomery to Melbourne on Friday, Sept. 13. This game at Rick Stottler Field is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
