MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech (0-1) opened its season with a home showdown against the Flagler Saints (1-0). The Panthers fought hard but could not overcome an early Saints' goal as they fall 1-0.
Â
Maria Munoz and
Monica Zabian led the attack as they combined for five shots.
Veronica Thordardottir and
Avery Kloeppel took the team's final three shots.
Â
Miranda Choplin and
Maria Sanchez Recuero both saw a half's worth of action in goal. Choplin was called upon to start the game and put together a solid effort in which she recorded two saves and allowed one goal. Recuero came in for the second half and tallied three saves of her own and did not surrender a goal.
Â
The Panthers started off slow as they allowed a Flagler goal at the 5:51 mark. However, the defense began to come alive and started to limit the Saints defense. The attack had a few chances but Flagler's Sarah-Lisa Dubel was there in time to stop the potential goals.
