MELBOURNE – Florida Tech looked to get back its winning ways as they welcomed the Tampa Spartans to the Clemente Center. Florida Tech put in a good effort but ultimately fell 42-62.
Amanda Allen paced the Panthers with nine points. While
Fanny Paulin led the team in rebounds with six and
Fanny Hakanson dished out the most dimes with two.
The game opened with a huge three for Florida Tech but a quick Tampa burst made it 3-7 about three and a half minutes into the contest. However, an 8-0 Panthers run later in the period put the women on top, 13-11. However, a late UT bucket tied it up after the first 10 minutes of play.
The second quarter was mostly a back-and-forth affair until a six-point Tampa run made it 29-23. But
Makyla Daniels sunk a jumper that brought it back within four points with less than 10 seconds left to go but a miracle Tampa buzzer beater made it 32-25 at the half.
The third quarter was a defensive battle as the two teams put up a combined 23 points. This made it a 25-35 game as it went into the final 10 minutes of play.
Unfortunately, the final quarter was all Tampa as the Crimson & Gray were outscored by 10 points. This made the final score of the contest, 42-62.
Florida Tech's next competition will be in a week when they head to Winter Park, Florida, for a game against the Rollins Tars. Game time for this contest is 5:30 p.m.
