Owens Efforts Not Enough to Take Down Lions in Extras

Dylan Owens had a 3-for-4 game and three RBI's to cap the night

MELBOURNE, FLA. – Florida Tech baseball opened the 2020 season at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field. The

Panthers hosted Lindenwood in the first game of a three-game series on Friday afternoon.

Tech was unable to earn a win in the season home opener against the Lions as the fell 6-5 in the 10th inning. For the Panthers, this is the first home opener extra-inning game since 2009.

The Crimson and Gray collected 13 hits, five RBI's, a walk, and left 11 players on base.

The top of the order certainly did their job today as the one through four hitters collected 10 out of 13 hits for the Panthers.

Dylan Owens had a great start to the 2020 campaign as he registered three hits in five at-bats. The junior also drove in three runs on the first game.

Rodnie Bernard and Raul Quintero collected two hits apiece with a stolen base to commence the new decade.

Brett Parrish got the start in right field this afternoon and batted third in the Panther lineup. The sophomore went 3-for-4 today with a hit by pitch, a run and two RBI's.

On the mound, Blake Beyel had a tremendous outing for the Panthers going 3.2 innings without allowing a run and only one hit. Beyel came in the fourth inning to relieve Andrew Marzheuser and was lights out for the Panthers recording five strikeouts.

In the first, the Panthers gave up four runs to the Lions on a couple of mental and defensive errors. In the bottom of the first, Tech responded with two runs by a couple RBI's single by Parrish and Owens.

The fourth, the Lions pulled away by scoring another run extending their lead by three runs. The Panthers, however, responded with a couple of runs due to an error by the Lions shortstop and an RBI single by Owens cutting Lindenwood lead to one.

In the sixth, the Panthers tied up the game with another RBI single by Owens making it 5-5. Unfortunately, Tech was unable to turn a crucial double play and allowed the Lions to go ahead by one on a fielder's choice.
