Panthers Fall in Extras Against the Saints

MELBOURNE, FLA. - Florida Tech baseball hosted Flagler at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers went to extras against the Saints, but despite their hard work Tech was not able to earn the win in 11 innings of play.

The Saints defeated the Panthers 7-4 in extras innings in a three hour and fourteen-minute ball game. The Crimson and Gray recorded four runs, seven hits, and left 10 runners on base.

Florida Tech had a great start to the ball game recording three runs in the first inning. Two runs came from the bat of Dylan Owens who hit a two-RBI double to left-center scoring Brett Parrish and Raul Quintero. The third run came from a sacrifice fly from Jakob Newton

In the second, the Saint tied up the game with a base clearing double to the right-field line. Both Panthers and the Saints did not score another run until the 8th inning.

Flagler was able to take the lead in the top of the 8th. The run came across the plate due to a fielding error by the Panthers. However, Tech was able to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th with a sacrifice fly by freshman Brendan Riley

Unfortunately, Florida Tech was not able to hold Flagler in the 11th inning as they were able to score three runs and secure their undefeated 7-0 record.

Brett Parrish had a great performance for the Panthers going 3-for-5 with a run scored and a double. Parrish with this performance leads the Panthers in batting average (.417).

Dylan Owens collected two hits in five at-bats. Owens registered two runs, two RBI's, and a double. Owens is now tied for first in the RBI category with five.

Brendan Riley was the reason the Panthers went to extras with a big sacrifices fly in the 8th. Riley recorded a hit in three at-bats with a walk.

On the pitching side, Justin Lorenz went five innings allowing five hits, three runs, a walk, and three strikeouts in the game. Blake Beyel went after Lorenz throwing three innings allowing three hits, a run, and two strikeouts. Jake Lane was the losing pitcher despite getting out of a couple of tough situations later in the game. Lane pitched three innings allowing four hits, three runs, and three strikeouts.
