Tech Wins Game Two at Tampa

Panthers defeat the Spartans 3-2

TAMPA, FLA. - Florida Tech baseball played a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the series against #4 Tampa. Tech fell in game one 5-2 but was able to recover and take game two 3-2. 

GAME ONE

The Spartans jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a couple of singles. The Panthers recorded theirs first run if the ball game in the fourth due to a Tampa throwing error allowing to score Rodnie Bernard. The Spartans in the other half added one more with a solo home run over the right-field fence. 

In the fifth, Raul Quintero had an RBI groundout that scored Blaise Maris. However, Tampa collected a run in their half and added one more in the eight to close out the game. 

Boris Villa pitched 4.2 innings for the Panthers allowing five hits, four runs, four walks, and six strikeouts in his second loss of the season. Justin Barney, Alex Carpenter, and Jordan Murray relief Villa and allowed a combine three hits, one run, four walks, and one strikeout. 

Blaise Maris added went 2-for-5 similar to game one and scored a run. Brett Parrish and Rodnie Bernard each collected a hit apiece. Bernard also had a run and two walks in the game. 

Jakob Newton went collected two hits in four at-bats for the Panthers. 

GAME TWO

The Panther pitching did a phenomenal job holding the dangerous Spartan lineup to two runs. Joey Hecht started the game and delivered 4.1 scoreless innings allowing just two hits and three strikeouts. 

Blake Beyel was the second pitcher of the game who recorded 3.1 innings allowing three hits, two runs, two walks, and two strikeouts. After Beyel, Andrew Dunham came in the eight to hold the Spartans and end the inning with a strikeout. 

Jake Lane came in the ninth for a save situation. The senior recorded two ground outs and a strikeout to earn the save and give the Panthers a win over the number four team in the country. 

Tech first run came in the seventh inning with an RBI single by Tyler Brown and a double by Rodnie Bernard to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. 

In the eight, Tampa tied up the game a two with a two-RBI single by Nick Derr. Next inning, Tech was able to take the lead on a Spartans wild pitch to take a 3-2 lead and earned the victory. 

Diego Garcia had his first multi-hit game collecting two hits on four at-bats with an RBI. 

Tyler Brown went 2-for-4 with a big RBI for the Panthers. Rodnie Bernard had an incredible 3-for-3 game scoring a run, an RBI, and two stolen bases. 

Brett Parish contributed on the Panther win registering one hit with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. 

NEXT

The Crimson and Gray will head home to face Kentucky Wesleyan on Monday, March 2 at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. first pitch.
