Sharks Rally Past Florida Tech Women

FIRST HALF: 
  • Panthers made their first three shots to take their only lead of the day, 9-7, 4:32 into the game. Sharks tied it up with a layup and took off from there.
  • NSU went on a 10-0 run to close out the first quarter, 17-9.
  • Lina Stranger-Johannessen drained a three-pointer followed by Fanny Hakanson making a steal to give Stranger-Johannessen another open three. Panthers cut the deficit to three, 4:37 to go.
  • Irene Vincente pushed for a layup to put Tech down by one. NSU answered back going on a 6-0 run to end the half, 32-25.
 
SECOND HALF: 
  • Sharks opened the gap up in the third quarter taking a 17-point lead.
  • Teams exchanged baskets for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter.
  • Panthers recorded nine unanswered points to make it a single digit game, 5:07 remaining. Baskets were made by Aayana Nedd, Hakanson, and Stranger-Johannessen.
  • Trying to stop the clock, Tech recorded six fouls resulting in 10 made baskets from the charity stripe for the Sharks to close out the game, 75-63.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Stranger-Johannessen led the Panthers with 14 points on 5-10 shooting including 3-6 from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds and four steals to the box score.
  • Hannah Roney posted 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
  • Hakanson charted seven points, three steals, and a team-high five assists.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
 
  • Tech finished the game shooting 38.3 (23-60) from the field, 34.6% (9-26) from beyond the arc, and 57.1% (8-14) on free throws.
  • NSU shot 50% (27-54) in the contest, including 23.5% (4-17) from the three-point range, and converted 89.5 (17-19) at the line.
  • Sharks won the rebounding battle (27-40) and had an edge (6-4) in second change points. NSU posted 46 points in the paint to Tech's 24.
  • Tech ended with the advantage in points off turnovers (24-12), bench points (26-24), and steals (10-7).
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to the Clemente Center Sunday, Dec. 19 to host Webber International. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
