West Palm Beach, Fla. - Florida Tech traveled to West Palm Beach to face Palm Beach Atlantic on today's midweek regional game. After a hard-fought battle against the Sailfish, the Panthers could not get the win as they fell 12-6 at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
PBA quickly took the lead in the bottom of the first with a home run to left field to take a 1-0.
Florida Tech answered with five runs in the top of the second to make it a 5-1 ball game. The Panthers recorded the first run after Sam Schner hit an RBI single to shortstop to score Paul Castillo. Raul Quintero made it a 2-1 game with an RBI single to the right field. Jakob Newton's bases-loaded hit by pitch scored the third run of the game, and Rodnie Bernard added two more with a single to left to score Schner and Quintero. The Sailfish added three runs in the bottom half, all coming on RBI singles to the outfield to make it a 5-4 game.
Tech added one more in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Brett Parrish. PBA answered with a run of their own with another home run to center (6-5).
PBA took a one-run lead in the fourth with two RBI singles to left field to make it a 7-6 game.
The Sailfish pulled ahead in the 6th, adding three runs with a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI home run to extend their lead 10-6.
PBA scored two more on a Panther error, and an RBI single to the shortstop in the bottom of the eight making it a 12-6 ball game.
Quintero had a two-hit game on five at-bats, recording two RBI's and a run in tonight's game.
Bernard had an impressive three-hit ball game on four at-bats posting two RBI's for Florida Tech.
Schner and Newton picked up an RBI each in today's loss to the Sailfish.
The Crimson and Gray will return Thursday, April 8, for game one of the conference series against Florida Southern. The game will be held at Henley Field in Lakeland at 5 p.m. EST.
