WINTER PARK, Fla. – Florida Tech softball hit the road for the final two games of the Sunshine State Conference series against the No. 8 Rollins College Tars. The Panthers dropped the first game, 9-0, but they gave the Tars their second loss of the year in the 1-0 victory in game two.
Tina Velazquez Rolon (3-2) had another great day as she grabbed a complete game shutout win at the plate and hit the home run that gave Tech the game two win and its only run of the afternoon.
Game one began with each team flexing its defensive prowess. However, that changed in the bottom of the second as the Tars tallied their first run. Rollins added one more run in the third inning and two more in the fourth to push its lead to 4-0.
The fifth inning saw five more Rollins runs cross the plate, making the score 9-0 and ending the game early due to the run rule.
Game two of the day was truly a pitchers duel as it was scoreless through six innings. The Crimson & Gray broke the 0-0 deadlock in the top of the seventh thanks to a Velazquez Rolon homer to left field. This 1-0 advantage was enough as Velazquez Rolon and the rest of the Panthers got the final three outs of the game and earned the win.
Tech's next competition will be its last road game of the season as the women head to West Palm Beach, Florida for a single game against Palm Beach Atlantic. The 5 p.m. ET showdown takes place Saturday, May 1, at Simpson Field.
