West Palm Beach, Fla. - Florida Tech went on the road for a doubleheader against Palm Beach Atlantic to complete a three game series. The Panthers recorded their third sweep of the season, winning 7-6 and 5-2 in today's afternoon game at J.M. Jake Rubin Park.
Game One
Florida Tech played their longest game of the season, going 14 innings. The Sailfish took a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single to left.
The Panthers quickly answered in the second, scoring three runs taking a 3-1 lead. The first run came from a sacrifice fly from Sam Schner. The following two came from a two run home run from Raul Quintero to left field.
PBA cut the Panthers lead to one run with a home run off the bat of Alley to make it a 3-2 ball game.
The Sailfish scored again in the seventh due to a Panther wild pitch that scored Houck to tie the game at three runs.
Florida Tech took back the lead in the ninth with an RBI single by Rodnie Bernard, but PBA tied it once more with another home run from Alley.
In the 14 inning, Alec Eldridge blasted a three run home run over the center field wall to take a three run lead over the Sailfish. PBA was not done yet as they added two more in the bottom half, but Andres Rodriguez struck out Lara to end the PBA's rally.
Game Two
After a five hour game, PBA came out swinging, scoring two runs in the second inning.
Florida Tech answered in the fifth inning scoring five runs to take a 5-2 lead over the Sailfish. Bernard started it with an RBI double that scored Jakob Newton. Next, Diego Garcia delivered an RBI single to score Bernard. Another RBI single by Tech off the bat of Eldridge made it a 3-2 ball game. Finally, Florida Tech got two more due to a Sailfish error that scored Eldridge and Owens.
Daniel Vassallo outing was a big one for Florida Tech. Vassallo pitched 4.2 innings allowing five hits, two runs, and six strikeouts to keep the Panthers within striking distance.
Matt DiNenna recorded his second save of the season, pitching 1.2 shutout innings and two strikeouts.
