Lady Panthers fall to Mocs’ on the Road

FIRST HALF: 
  • Panthers jumped out to a 6-2 lead on a three by Aiste Vaitekunaite with 6:01 to go in the opening frame.
  • Florida Southern recorded six unanswered points, 8-6, to take a two-point lead into the second quarter.
  • Mocs' closed the half on a 19-2 run and carried a 27-8 advantage into halftime.

SECOND HALF: 
  • Makayla Daniels opened the second half scoring on a layup assisted by Lina Stranger-Johannessen, 9:33 remaining.
  • A 9-2 run by the Panthers cut the deficit, 31-19, with 4:56 to go. Baskets by Daniels, Fanny Paulin, and Stranger-Johannessen.
  • Paulin drained a wide open three followed by a steal from Cheyenne Scott that led to a pair of free throws after being followed on the fastbreak to close out the frame, 39-28.
  • Tech outscored the Mocs', 20-12, in the third quarter.
  • Panthers were able to cut the deficit to single digits, 41-32, on a three-point play by Vaitekunaite, who knocked down a contested jumper and then converted the and-1 with 7:10 to go.
  • Mocs' outscored Tech 15-7 the rest of the contest en route to a 56-39 win.

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Daniels recorded nine points and six rebounds on 4-5 shooting.
  • Paulin finished with eight points, five rebounds, one assist, and three steals.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Panthers shot 30.4% (14-46) from the field, 17.6% (3-17) from beyond the arc, and 80% (8-10) on free throws.
  • FSC made 33.9% (20-59) of its shots in the game, including 21.1% (4-19) from the three, and 85.7% (12-14) at the line.
  • Mocs' won the rebounding battle, 41-33.
  • Tech led in second chance points (10-7), while FSC had more fastbreak points (12-6).
  • Teams tied with 10 a piece in bench points.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech is back home Saturday, Jan. 29 to host Rollins at the Clemente Center. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
