Florida Tech Completes Day Two of the South Regional Crossover Tournament

HOOVER, Ala -Florida Tech Volleyball defeated Valdosta State University Saturday morning 3-1 while also sweeping Christian Brothers University Saturday night in three straight sets on day two of the South Region Crossover. The Panthers record now improved to 11-9 overall.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Florida Tech recorded 69.0 points, 80 digs, 59 kills, 55 assists, five blocks and five service aces in the match.
  • The first set saw the Panthers and Blaze battle it out going back and forth for few points of the match.
  • Tied 6-6 Tech finally pushed ahead by going on a five-point streak to make the score 11-6.
  • Valdosta State failed to catch from that moment on with tech eventually going up 19-11.
  • The Crimson and Grey defeated Valdosta St. 25-10 to claim victory in the first set.
  • Valdosta got out to a big lead early in the second set.
  • As the Panthers trailed 18-7, the women would fight back to score nine unanswered points to bring the set within three points at 18-16.
  • With the set on the line at 24-19, the trailing Panthers fought until the end scoring three points before the Blaze claimed set two 25-21 to tie the match up.
  • Set three started out like that of set one with both teams going back and forth in the points section.
  • As Tech trailed 7-6, the team pulled ahead with four unanswered points to take the lead 10-7.
  • The Panthers would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set from that point on.
  • Ahead 14-11, the Crimson and Grey rallied for six straight points from five kills to make it a 19-11 set.
  • Katie Erdmann and Ashley Rants both recorded two kills in the six-point rally while Kayla Mastin earned a kill as well.
  • The Panthers would eventually take set three 25-17 to go ahead 2-1 in the match.
  • Tech went ahead 7-3 to start off the fourth set.
  • Ahead 7-4, the Crimson and Grey went on to score four straight points making in an 11-4 set with the match on the line.
  • A kill from Ashley Rants and service ace from Kari Bogen along with two Valdosta St. attacking errors put Tech up 18-9.
  • The Panthers would later go on another four-point run to come within one point of match point at 24-12.
  • A kill by Devyn Glassgold which was assisted by Kelly Merz closed out set four 25-13 and gave the Panthers a 3-1 match victory.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Freshman Kenzie Delacher recorded a career high 50 assists in the match
  • Erdman matched a career-high 27 kills
  • The Panthers recorded a season high 59 kills and .276 hitting percentage while matching a season high 55 assists.

  • In three sets, Florida Tech recorded 55.0 points, 62 digs, 43 kills, 43 assists, five blocks and service aces in the match.
  • The Panthers fell behind 3-0 to start off set one before pouncing with four straight points to take the lead 4-3.
  • Katie Erdmann recorded three kills on four of the Crimson and Grey's first four points.
  • Tech jumped out to a big 11-6 lead thanks to six unanswered points.
  • From there the Women wouldn't let up with its biggest lead coming at the set point with a 24-14 score.
  • A Devyn Glassgold block helped the Panthers secure the first set 25-15
  • The Panthers found themselves in a back-and-forth contest with five lead changes early on.
  • The final lead change of the set came when Tech took a 9-8 lead over the Buccaneers.
  • Tech would go on a four-point run shortly after to increase its lead to 16-10.
  • A head 20-15, the Crimson and Grey rallied five straight points to close out set two 25-15.
  • In the third set, the Panthers took an early 5-2 lead over CBU
  • The Buccaneers would come back to tie the set up 10-10 to keep the match alive.
  • Tech fell behind 15-12, but the Panthers pounced back to recapture the lead from four straight points to make it a 16-15 Florida Tech lead.
  • With the set tied at 16-16, the Crimson and Grey didn't hold back rallying off six unanswered points to take a 22-16 lead.
  • Katie Erdmann closed out the match by recording her 314th kill of the season and giving the Panthers a 25-18 set win and 3-0 match win.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Crimson and Grey complete the South Regional Crossover with a perfect 3-0 record.
  • With her first kill against CBU, Erdmann becomes the first Panther to record 300 or more kills in consecutive seasons since Sacha Gumbs and Mayne Pegorari did it in 2007 and 2008.
  • Tech's 3-0 sweep against the Buccaneers was the team's fourth match sweep of the season.
  • The Panthers improve to a 5-1 record against CBU.
  • The Crimson and Grey have now won the past three meetings against the Buccaneers.
  • Katie Erdmann ranks second In the conference in points, (340) kills (314), points per set (4.53) and kills per set (4.19)
  • Kenzie Delacher leads the SSC in assists with 707. she is the fourth freshman since 1993 to record 700 or more assists
  • Kari Bogen's 350 digs give her the most in the SSC.
UP NEXT: The Florida Tech volleyball team will yet again travel on Tuesday, October 18th to Daytona Beach, Fla where they'll matchup against Embry-Riddle at the ICI Center. The match Is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
