Queiroz Scores Twice as Panthers Defeat PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - In its second match of the week, Florida Tech hit the road to take on Palm Beach Atlantic. The Panthers defeated the Sailfish 2-1 to win their third consecutive SSC match.  
 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP: 

Final: Florida Tech 2, Palm Beach Atlantic 1 
Records: Florida Tech (7-3-1, 4-2 SSC) Palm Beach Atlantic (1-7-3, 0-4-2 SSC) 
Location: PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field | West Palm Beach, Fla. 

STATS OF THE MATCH: 

  • Inside the opening minute, the Panthers were fouled inside the box which gave Mayara Queiroz a penalty kick opportunity that she made no mistake with to give her team a 1-0 lead.  
  • The lead was doubled in the 14th minute on a free kick where Halla Helgadottir found Queiroz for her second goal of the match.  
  • Right at the brink of halftime, the Sailfish cut the lead in half with a goal from Marina Leal after a Panthers turnover.  
  • Tech outshot PBA eight to four in the first half.  
  • The Sailfish attempted to claw all the way back in the second half, but the Panthers held strong shutting them out in the final 45 minutes.  
  • Florida Tech had five corner kicks on the night while PBA had two. 
  • There were three yellow cards given out, two to the Sailfish and one to the Panthers. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Florida Tech improves to 14-3-0 all time against Palm Beach Atlantic. 
  • The Panthers' three-game win streak is a season-high. 
  • Queiroz has three goals in her last two matches. 
  • Helgadottir has an assist in three consecutive matches and is now tied with Katherine Cunningham with a team-high of four assists for the season. With the win, Tech remains in fourth place in the SSC, just one point behind third place Embry-Riddle.  

UP NEXT: The Panthers will be back in action with a road match Saturday Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. against Saint Leo.
