Panthers Tie Tampa on Senior Night

MELBOURNE, Fla. - For its last regular season match, the Panthers were looking to snag a win to give themselves momentum going into next week's SSC Tournament. However, Florida Tech was held to a 1-1 draw against Tampa on its Senior Night.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF THE MATCH: 

  • In the 23' Katherine Cunningham sent a long ball forward which led to May Queiroz setting up Lauryn Wood to score and give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. 
  • Florida Tech outshot Tampa 5-4 in the first half. 
  • Tech goalie Maria Sanchez Recuero had little to do except make two simple saves in the first 45 minutes.  
  • In the 81' the Panthers earned a penalty kick after a handball in the box. Queiroz stepped up to take it, but Spartans goalie Megan Hessel guessed the right direction to save her shot. 
  • A few minutes later, Tech thought they had closed the game out with their second goal, but the referee called it back because of a foul. 
  • After battling the entire match, Tampa got its equalizer in the 86' when Katherine Hostage found the end of a cross from Quinn Knapp off a free kick.  
  • Florida Tech had seven corner kicks on the night while Tampa had four. 
  • The Panthers were a constant threat offensively with 22 shots, however Hessel made 12 saves to keep the Spartans in the match. 
  • For the foul count, Florida Tech had 12 and Tampa had 7. 


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Florida Tech moves to 4-13-7 all-time against Tampa.
  • Tonight's draw was Florida Tech's second of the season after having nine draws in 2021.  
  • Cunningham now leads the team in assists with five and is tied for second for most in the SSC.  
  • The Panthers finished fourth in the SSC regular season, which is their best finish since placing fourth in 2011. 


UP NEXT: The Panthers will be back in action on Monday October 31st for the Quarterfinals of the SSC tournament. Florida Tech will host Barry with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
