Aiste Vaitekunaite Posts Double-Double In Panthers Win Against Notre Dame College

Tampa, Fla.- Florida Tech took on Notre Dame College (Ohio) on day two of the Tampa Holiday Classic Tournament. The Panthers put on an impressive performance that led to a 79-65 victory over Notre Dame College.

FIRST QUARTER 
  • Florida Tech jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after a three pointer from Aiste Vaitekunaite and a jumper from Grace Speer.
  • A 9-0 run by the Panthers gave them a 14-point lead with 3:35 to go.
  • Notre Dame College would go on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to nine.
  • Vaitekunaite finished the first with 12 points.
  • Heading into the second quarter, the Panthers led 22-9.
SECOND QUARTER 
  • Notre Dame College started out the quarter with a pair of free-throws.
  • Tech responded with a 9-2 run capped out with a layup from Dalma Ehmann.
  • A three pointer from Farah Shaaban extended the Panthers lead to 20 with 1:31 to go.
  • Notre Dame College ended the second quarter on a 3-0 run.
  • Florida Tech was on top 40-23 at the half.
  • At the half, the Panthers were shooting 51% (18-35) from the field.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Notre Dame College began the third quarter with back-to-back baskets.
  • Tech continued to respond with an 8-4 run with 4:20 left.
  • Notre Dame College would not go away quietly. Both teams exchanged baskets for the rest of the third quarter.
  • Emily Acampora ended the third with a deep three pointer. 
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Notre Dame College continued to battle with the Panthers. A couple of fouls from Tech sent Notre Dame to the line early in the fourth.
  • A free throw from Notre Dame at the 7:17 mark cut the deficit to 15.
  • Tech answered with their own pair of free throws followed by a fastbreak layup by Tai Roberts.
  • A layup by Notre Dame College trimmed the lead down to 12 with 2:03 to go.
  • Freshman Summer Benjamin saw some action. Benjamin scored on a layup and was fouled and sent to the line for a chance at a three-point play. She made her free-throw.
  • A 7-0 run by the Panthers extended their lead back out to 19 and that would do it for Tech.  
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Vaitekunaite led the way notching her first double-double of the season recording 19 points and 12 rebounds. She also added three blocks and two assists.
  • Acampora tallied 10 points, two blocks, and one assist.
  • Speer added eight points, two assists, and one steal.   
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • This is the first ever meeting between Florida Tech and Notre Dame College (Ohio). Tech is now 1-0 in the all-time series.
  • The Panthers shot 52% (32-61) from the field, 35% (7-20) from behind the three-point line, and 73% (8-11) from the free-throw line.
  • Notre Dame College shot 38% (21-56) from the field, including 23% (5-22) from the three, and 75% (18-24) at the line.
  • Florida Tech led in rebounds (47-22), second chance points (25-7), and points in the paint (42-28), assists (20-9), and blocks (5-1).
  • Notre Dame College led in fast break points (14-13) and steals (9-5).
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will have a few days off for the holidays before they return to SSC action on Thursday, Dec. 29 against Nova Southeastern on the road. Tip-off is set for 5:30PM.
