Turnovers Haunt Panthers in Loss at No. 2 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - After having 10 days between games because of the Christmas break, Florida Tech returned to action with a trip to No. 2 Nova Southeastern. Turnovers plagued the Panthers all evening as they fell 105-75 to the Sharks. 

 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:  
Final: Florida Tech 75, No. 2 Nova Southeastern 105 
Records: Florida Tech (10-3, 3-2 SSC), No. 2 Nova Southeastern (11-0, 4-0 SSC) 
Location: Rick Case Arena | Fort Lauderdale, Fla.  

 
FIRST HALF:  

  • Four early turnovers for Tech against the aggressive full-court press from Nova gave the Sharks an 11-3 lead. 
  • A 13-3 run for Nova pushed its lead to 24-6. 
  • A fast break lay up for Konstantinos Lagos capped off a 7-2 run for the Panthers to cut the lead to 26-13. 
  • Back-to-back triples from Sesan Russell cut the Sharks lead to 10.   
  • A 10-2 run for the Sharks pushed their lead to 42-21 with five minutes remaining in the half. 
  • A dunk for Nova inside the final minute capped off a poor first half for the Panthers that saw them trail 58-33.  


SECOND HALF:  

  • Mekhii Noble got a shot to go inside as the Panthers traded buckets with the Sharks early on, trailing 67-43.  
  • At the under 12 media timeout the Panthers found themselves down 74-48. 
  • An impressive block from Niall Harris on defense followed by a hook shot from Chase Thompson and a lay in from Russell put Tech to within 22 points.  
  • A 11-1 run for Nova gave it a 91-61 advantage with just over six minutes left in the game. 
  • Playing in his first game of the year, Akene Agee hit a triple in the final minute for the Panthers. 


NOTABLE PANTHERS:  

  • Thompson scored a career-high 21 points and also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. He was 9-of-13 from the free throw line. 
  • Russell scored 18 points and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. 
  • The final Panther in double-figures was Lagos with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.  


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Panthers shot 38.9% (21-54) from the field and 20.8% (5-24) from three. The Sharks shot 46.9% (38-81) from the field and 34.6% (4-14) from behind the arc.  
  • Tech was 73.7% (28-38) from the free throw line while Nova was 70.4% (19-27). 
  • The Panthers turned the ball over 25 times and forced only nine turnovers on defense. Nova scored 36 points off the turnovers.  
  • Rebounds were close with Tech edging out Nova 43-30. 
  • Both teams had five blocks. 
  • Florida Tech drops to 37-25 all-time against Nova Southeastern. 


UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action with a trip to Rollins College on Sunday, Jan. 1st. Tip-off from Winter Park, Fla. is scheduled for 4 p.m.
