Panthers Get Back on Track with Road Win over Lynn

Florida Tech returns to win column with wire-to-wire 84-78 victory over Lynn

FIRST HALF:
  • Sesan Russell and Sean Houpt each knocked down a three to help the Panthers jump out to an early 11-0 lead with 15:35 remaining. 
  • Lynn responded by scoring 14 of the next 20 points to cut the margin to 17-14 with 10:54 to go.
  • Tech answered with its own 21-3 run to grab a 38-17 advantage with 4:57 to go. Runako Ziegler, Houpt and Russell combined to make five three-pointers during the run.
  • Panthers' lead remained in double-figures the rest of the half and Tech took a 44-29 lead into halftime. 
 
SECOND HALF:
  • Lynn gradually trimmed the Panthers' lead during the second half, eventually getting the margin down to 58-50 with 9:34 to go following a pair of layups by Branden Ellis.
  • Threes by Niall Harris and Runako Ziegler pushed the Panthers' lead back to double-figures 73-56 with 5:21 remaining. 
  • Lynn went on a 16-5 run to cut the deficit to 78-72 with 47 seconds left on the clock. 
  • Houpt went 4-6 at the line over the final 42 seconds to keep the Panthers' lead at two possessions and not allow Lynn a chance to tie the game. 
  • Time eventually ran out for the home team as the Panthers held for the six point victory on the road.  
     
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Runako Ziegler tied a game-high with 24 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals on 9-12 shooting, including 2-2 beyond the arc, and 4-5 at the line while playing all 40 minutes. 
  • Sean Houpt also tied a game-high with 24 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists on 6-12 shooting, including 5-9 beyond the arc, while playing all 40 minutes.
  • Niall Harris recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds on 6-15 shooting 
  • Sesan Russell tallied 11 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds on 3-5 shooting beyond the arc. 
  • Mate Papai added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists on 4-9 shooting

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech shot 47.5% (28-59), including 55% (11-22) beyond the arc, and 70.8% (17-24) at the line.
  • Lynn made 46.0% (23-50) of its shots in the game, 47.8% (11-23) from three and 80.8% (21-26) on free throws. 
  • Panthers won the rebounding battle 32-29.
  • Tech finished with an edge in second chance points (13-6), points in the paint (32-18).
  • Panthers never trailed in the contest, leading for 39:41 of game time. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • With the win, Florida Tech ended its 12-game winless streak dating back to Dec. 20, 2021. Three of those losses came as a result of forfeits due to COVID-19 Protocols. 
  • Panthers pick up their first road win since defeating Rollins 92-77 on Dec. 4.
  • Tech is now 23-38 all-time versus Lynn. 

UP NEXT: Florida Tech is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 16 as the Panthers host Barry in SSC play at the Clemente Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
