Panthers Split on Final Day of Florida Tech Invitational

Softball earns the walk-off win against Bentley; Drops to #17 West Florida

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
GAME ONE:

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Two pitches into the game, Falcons got on the board with a homerun.
  • Bentley advanced their lead, 2-0, with a RBI single up the middle in the top of the 2nd.
  • Bottom of the 3rd, Mikayla Wessel singled up the middle and stole second. Cheyenne Nelson blasted a double to left center, scoring Wessel. Panthers tied it up with a bases-loaded single by Jolie Miracle, 2-2.
  • Falcons took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the 8th on a fielder's choice but the Panthers answered with a sacrifice fly to tie it once again.
  • A RBI single to shortstop, 4-3, for Bentley put pressure on the Panthers going into the bottom of the 10th.
  • A sacrifice bunt advanced Ashley Campbell to third, but Bentley was quick to tag the out at home on the next play.
  • However, the Panthers didn't back down. With Wessel at first, Nelson sent a bomb to left center scoring Wessel. Chloe French followed with the game-winning RBI on a single to center field that scored Nelson.
  • Samantha Guider got the win in the circle allowing only five hits with both runs against her unearned. Guider struck out five, walked none, and went 65 of 90 pitches for strikes.
 
 
GAME TWO:
Final: Florida Tech 3, #17 West Florida 6
Records: Florida Tech (6-4, 0-0 SSC) | West Florida (4-3, 0-0 GSC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • West Florida scored one in each of the first three innings on a ground out RBI unearned, fielder's choice RBI, and a solo homerun.
  •  Panthers tied it up in the bottom of the 3rd as Chloe French's bases-loaded hard hit to shortstop drove in two, Mikayla Wessel and Whitney Ellis. Mikayla Lewin's bases-loaded walk added run number three.
  • UWF add three runs in the top of the final two innings before the Argos pitcher retired the Panthers in order in the bottom of the 7th.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Tech is now 2-0 all-time against Bentley and 6-9 all-time against West Florida.
  • Nelson went 4-9 with four runs, two RBI, and two doubles posting .667% on the day.
  • Panthers finished the Florida Tech Invitational with four wins, two losses.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech opens conference play on Friday, Feb. 18 when they travel to Miami Shores to take on Barry in a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
