Panthers Earn Impressive Sweep to Close Out the Weekend

Florida Tech moves to 2-2 on the season, defeating Carson-Newman and Georgia College

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
GAME ONE:
Final:
 Florida Tech 9, Carson-Newman 6
Records: Florida Tech (1-2, 0-0 SSC) | Carson-Newman (2-1, 0-0 SAC)
Location: Peeler Athletic Complex | Milledgeville, Ga.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • C-N plates two off a rip to right field and an error to take the early lead, 2-0 in the first.
  • Panthers take advantage of three walks and a hit batter to plate six runs in the second. Kelly McLaughlin walks on bases-loaded, Cheyenne Nelson and Ella Chang Gibson each grab two-run singles, and Chloe French squeeze bunts for a RBI.
  • After the Eagles scored off a RBI groundout, Nelson saved another run with a catch at the fence to end the third inning.
  • Panthers answered with a sacrifice fly by Jolie Miracle to send Mikayla Lewin home, 7-3 Tech.
  • French extended Tech's lead, 9-3, in the top of the fifth with a deep double to the center field wall to score Nelson and McLaughlin.
  • C-N scored three runs over the next three innings on a double, a pass ball, and a RBI single but it wasn't enough to overtake the Panthers.
  • Samantha Guider earned her first win of the season on 47 pitches with 32 strikes.

Final: Florida Tech 18, Georgia College 3
Records: Florida Tech (2-2, 0-0 SSC) | Georgia College (0-3, 0-0 PBC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Allison Platon came through with a two-run single to center field in the top of the third to score Miracle and Gibson and give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

  • A RBI triple off the bat of GC's Carlie Behan in the bottom half gave the bobcats their first run, 6-1.
