Florida Tech drops hard fought battle in series opener against Palm Beach Atlantic

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Mikayla Wessel and Mikayla Lewin singles allowed the Panthers to get in scoring position. A fielding error sent both Wessel and Lewin to home plate in the top of the 1st.
  • Sailfish tied it up on a bases-loaded walk followed by a bases-loaded single. PBA's go-ahead run came on a RBI groundout.
  • Panthers were once again in scoring position in the top of the 4th. Ashley Campbell hit a double to left center to plate two. After taking third, Campbell stole home to add another run.
  • PBA's five-run inning put them ahead, 8-5. Runs came in on a sacrifice fly, a two-run bases-loaded single, a RBI single, and a steal of home.
  • Victoria Szrom singled to centerfield and advanced second on the throw sending Jolie Miracle to third. Whitney Ellis followed with a grounded out to score Jolie Miracle and cut the PBA lead to two, top of the 5th.
  • In their final at bat, Tech went three up three down to end the game.
  • Cheyenne Nelson, Szrom, and Campbell each recorded a double.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Panthers move to 33-28 all-time against Palm Beach Atlantic.
  • Mikayla Wessels run scored moved her up in the record book to seventh all-time for career runs scored with 106.
  • Cheyenne Nelson extended her hitting streak to 12 games.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech concludes the series with the Sailfish on Saturday with a double header beginning at noon at Simpson Field.
