Panthers Come Up Short Against Florida Southern

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • A Panther error allowed FSC to get on the board first, top of the 3rd.
  • Mocs' added three more in the top of the 4th. A two-out bases-loaded double plated two followed by a RBI single, unearned.
  • Tech answered back scoring their first run on a sacrifice fly from Ella Gibson.
  • Cutting the Mocs' lead in half, Tech added their second run in the bottom of the 5th. Mikayla Wessel reached first on a fielder's choice as Victoria Szrom was tagged out at the plate. As Wessel headed to second, Mocs' attempted to beat her there but were unsuccessful. Ashley Campbell was able to reach home during the sequence.
  • A two-out triple from Wessel in the 7th inning kept the Panther hopes alive.
  • Cheyenne Nelson singled to right center to score Wessel and make it a one-point game.
  • A fly-out ended the inning giving FSC their second conference win.
  • Alex Hendrian (7-6) got the start in the circle allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and three walks on two strikeouts in three and two-third innings of work.
  • Kelsie Rivers threw three and one-third innings allowing three hits, no runs and two walks on two strikeouts.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Panthers move to 31-96 all-time against the Florida Southern Mocs.
  • Cheyenne Nelson extended her hitting streak to 22 consecutive games.
  • Nelson's two hits ties top-10 all-time in program history for career hits with 177.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech concludes the series with Florida Southern on Saturday with a doubleheader at Nancy Bottge Field. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
