Florida Tech Comes Up Short in Top 15 Matchup with Rollins

No. 12 Panthers fall to No. 13 Tars 16-15 on the road

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Zach Rozgonyi opened the scoring to put Tech up 1-0 just 47 seconds into the game. 
  • Collin Stewart increased the Panthers' lead to 2-0 with 13:02 left. 
  • Rollins ensued on a 3-1 run to tie the game at 3-3 with 3:41 to go. Sam Sidari tallied the Panthers goal during the run with 4:52 remaining. 
  • Panthers closed out the first quarter with three consecutive tallies to push their lead to 6-3. Bennett Duffy scored twice, the second off an assist from Justin Williams with 1:27 to go. Rozgonyi provided the final goal of the quarter off a feed from Collin Stewart with 18 seconds left. 
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • Tars outscored Tech 6-2 in the second quarter and took a 9-8 advantage into halftime. 
  • Nate Deplancke accounted for one of the Panthers' goals during the quarter, scoring off an assist from Sidari with 7:12 left.
  • Stewart tallied Tech's other goal off an assist from Rozgonyi with 4:14 remaining in the frame.  

THIRD QUARTER: 
  • Rozgonyi scored the first goal of the second half with 12:46 left in the third to tie the game at 9-9. 
  • Rollins answered with three straight goals to push its lead to 12-9 with 5:50 remaining. 
  • Williams scored twice during the final 5:15 of the third and the Panthers went into the fourth trailing 13-11. 

FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Williams and Chandler Hake tallied the opening goals of the fourth, both off assists from Rozgonyi, to tie it up at 13-13 with 12:56 to go. 
  • After Rollins scored to push the lead back to two, 14-13, with 7:33 left. 
  • Duffy completed his hat trick off an assist from Griffin Bowie to even the score at 14-14 with 6:20 remaining. 
  • Deplancke gave Florida Tech its first lead since the second quarter, 15-14, on an unassisted goal with 4:32 left. 
  • Rollins was able to score two goals over the next two minutes to push their lead back to two, 16-15, with 2:38 to go. 
  • Florida Tech was unable to come up with the equalizer in the waning minutes and dropped its second SSC game of the season. 

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Rollins finished with an edge in shots (45-37), shots on goal (28-21), faceoff wins (19-15), ground balls (32-30) and caused turnovers (12-8). 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • John Hulsman's 12 saves in the game gave him the single season record for saves with 182 this season.
  • Jack Maranto surpassed 100 career faceoffs wins and now sits at 103. He is the 5th Panther to win 100 faceoffs.
  • Zach Rozgonyi becomes the 7th player to record 80 points in a career, and now has 82 for his career.

UP NEXT: Florida Tech is set to face No. 1 seeded Tampa in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament on Thursday, April 28 in Tampa, Florida. Start time for the contest is yet to be announced.
