Paul Castillo’s Walk Off Homer Clinches Series for Panthers on Senior Day

Panthers walk it off in 11 inning thriller splitting doubleheader with Sailfish

STATS OF GAME 1:
 
  • Mikey Casaleggio hit a RBI single to left field in the top of the first, scoring Matthew Faranda to give the Sailfish the first run of the game.
  • Matty Warren scored on a wild pitch to extend the Sailfish lead.
  • Jake Roper hit a three-run homer to give the Sailfish a 5-0 lead.
  • The Sailfish would go on to score five more unanswered runs between the second and fourth innings.
  • The only runs by the Panthers came in the fifth inning when Brett Parrish hit a three-run homer to right field, scoring Jakob Newton and Hayden Kimball in the process, cutting the Sailfish lead 10-3.
  • The Sailfish then tacked on five more runs between the sixth and ninth innings to secure a 15-3 victory over the Panthers.
  • Andres Rodriguez pitched one and two-third innings, allowing six hits, seven runs, struck out four Sailfish batters, while throwing 51 pitches.
  • Justin Lorenz pitched three and one-third innings, allowing four hits, three runs, and struck out one Sailfish batter.
  • Tyler Vermillion pitched two innings, allowing three hits, two runs, and struck out one.
  • Andres Tapia pitched one inning, allowing no hits, two runs, and struck out one.
  • Aiden Pryzgoda closed the game for the Panthers, allowing two hits, one run, and struck out one.
 
STATS OF GAME 2:
  • Jiovel Lantigua hit a RBI single to center field in the top of the second, scoring Sean Houck, allowing the Sailfish to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Jake Roper scored on a wild pitch, advancing Lantigua to third.
  • The Panthers answered the Sailfish in the bottom of the third when Sam Schner hit a RBI single to center field, advancing Luca Wentzel to third, scoring Paul Castillo, and cutting the Sailfish lead in half.
  • Davis Blair hit a RBI single to center field in the top of the sixth, plating Roper to extend the Sailfish lead 3-1.
  • Sam Schner grounded out to shortstop in the bottom of the eighth, which allowed Hayden Kimball to score from third, cutting the Sailfish lead 3-2.
  • The Panthers loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth. Paul Castillo hit a RBI single to shortstop, scoring Jakob Newton and tying the game 3-3.
  • In the top of the 11th, Lantigua homered to left field, giving the Sailfish a 4-3 lead.
  • Paul Castillo hit a two-run homer to right field, clearing the benches, and sending the Panthers out with a bang for a 5-4 victory over the Sailfish.
  • Noah Steckley pitched two innings, allowing three hits, two runs, struck out four Sailfish batters, while throwing 32 pitches.
  • Zach Rodgers pitched three innings, allowing one hit, no runs, and struck out three.
  • Danny Vassallo pitched two innings, allowing four hits, one run, and struck out two.
  • Alex Carpenter closed the game for the Panthers, allowing two hits, one run, struck out three, while throwing 60 pitches, earning the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first series between Florida Tech and Palm Beach Atlantic since May 6, 2021. The Panthers now lead the all-time series 57-28.
  • Dylan Owens ended the season catching 19 runners stealing, leading the Sunshine State Conference.
  • Alex Carpenter's 1.44 ERA in 17 appearances this season was the lowest by a reliever to make at least 15 appearances since James Mannara's 1.25 ERA in 2012.
