STATS OF THE MATCH:
- Florida Tech controlled the offensive momentum during the first half, and had a 6-1 advantage in shots.
- Panthers had a quality scoring opportunity at the 15' with a free kick but was just shy of the net going out of bounds.
- May Queiroz had a chance to score a minute later but her shot went high.
- Montevallo changed the pace in the second half keeping the ball primarily in offensive position but the Panthers were still able to match the Falcons with five shots a piece.
- The biggest save of the night came when UM was given a free kick right outside the box. Maria Sanchez Recuero dove right deflecting the ball and keeping the Falcons off the scoreboard.
- After being down two players due to red cards, the Falcons received a red card of their own putting the Panthers down by one.
- The winning goal came in the 77' when a UM shot was deflected by a Panther and landed at the feet of Angelina Rivas. Rivas blasted the ball to the top left side of the net to give UM the lead, 1-0.
- Tech finished with an edge in shots, 11-8, while each team had six shots on goal.
- Sanchez Recuero finished with five saves while Emily Hounsell had six.
- 10 cards were handed out in the contest; seven yellow and three red. Tech received four yellow cautions and two red.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Florida Tech is now 3-1 all- time against Montevallo.
- Six different Panthers recorded one shot on goal, which is the most individuals to do so since the Panthers draw with Saint Leo on 10/16/2021.
- Tonight's loss was the second loss in a season opener for the Panthers in the last five years.
