Panthers grab first SSC win vs Nova Southeastern

Florida Tech defends home field and wins 2-0

 

Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. - In their first home conference game of the season, the Panthers took on Nova Southeastern. On a rainy night at Rick Stottler Field, Florida Tech took down the Sharks 2-0.

STATS OF THE MATCH: 

  • In the 5' May Queiroz threatened to open the scoring for the Panthers but her shot from the left side of the box was stopped. 

  • On the brisk of halftime in the 38' JoJo Michaels gave Florida Tech the lead with a goal from inside the box off a pass from Jessica Cravero. 

  • In the first half, the Panthers outshot Nova Southeastern 10-4. 

  • Florida Tech doubled its lead in the 61' on a headed goal from Cristina Garriga from a Kate Frazier cross. 

  • Of the Panthers 19 shots, 13 of them were registered as a shot on goal. 

  • Panther's goalkeeper Maria Sanchez Recuero made eight saves, which is a season high.  

  • Florida Tech had eight corner kicks on the night while Nova Southeastern only had one.  

  • Sanchez Recuero along with Lauryn Wood, Kajsa Ekstrom, Kate Frazier, Lydia Carroll, and Halla Helgadottir played the full 90 minutes. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • With the win Florida Tech moves to 9-13-1 all time against Nova Southeastern.  

  • The Panthers have won two in a row in the series, the last meeting being a 1-0 win in the SSC Semifinals on November 8, 2021. This was Tech's first win at home against the Sharks since a 1-0 victory on October 30, 2013. 

  • Florida Tech moves into a tie for fourth place in the SSC standings while Nova Southeastern drops to third place after being tied for first place going into the match.  

UP NEXT: The Panthers will be back in action for another home conference match Wednesday, Sep. 21 against Eckerd College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Rick Stottler Field.
