Florida Tech Completes Comeback to Defeat Sailfish

Katie Erdmann led all players with 25 kills

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Florida Tech volleyball played its second match in two days as they hit the road to face Palm Beach Atlantic. The Panthers were trailing 2-1 before making the comeback in set four to force a fifth set. Tech's dominant performance in set five pushed them to a 3-2 win to move 7-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Set one was a close affair with neither team leading more than two points up until Florida Tech scored four-straight points to pull ahead 21-16.
  • PBA wasn't able to catch up as Tech took set one 25-20.
  • Teams were tied nine times and saw five lead changes.
  • Tech took an early 5-3 lead in set two, but PBA came back to tie it up 9-9.
  • Set two saw 15 ties and seven lead changes.
  • Tied up 16-16, the Panthers went on a 7-3 run to take a 23-19 advantage.
  • Sailfish answered back scoring six straight points to win the set 25-23 and tie the game, 1-1.
  • PBA jumped out to an early 3-2 lead in set three and didn't relinquish the lead the rest of the set.
  • A 7-3 run followed by a 9-6 run extended PBA's advantage 19-11.
  • Tech rallied back scoring four of the next five points to cut the deficit to five (20-15).
  • However, PBA scored five of the final six points on three kills and two Panther errors to close out set three (25-16).
  • Set four started off with a dominant performance by Tech to pull away 9-4 and force PBA to take a timeout.
  • Coming out of the timeout, PBA scored four straight points to close in on Tech 9-8.
  • Back-to-Back 5-2 runs by each team brought the score to 16-15. Panthers posted a 4-1 advantage (20-16) before PBA scored the next eight points to take their first lead of the set 24-20.
  • Five straight points, two kills, two PBA errors, and an ace, put Tech back in the set leading 25-24.
  • Sailfish tied it up 25-25 with a kill by Mary Morgan Formby, but Katie Erdmann followed with a kill for Tech (26-25).
  • Kenzie Delacher recorded a service ace to win set four and force a fifth set.
  • Panthers brought the momentum into set five, quickly taking an 8-2 lead.
  • PBA closed the gap 13-11 with a 9-5 run but Tech scored the final two points on an Erdmann kill and Sailfish error to win the set 15-11 and take the 3-2 win.
  • Erdmann led all players with 25 kills while also recording nine digs and one block and hitting .329.
  • Delacher posted a double-double with 41 assists and 17 digs while also tallying five kills and four blocks.
  • Kari Bogen posted a double-double 22 digs and 10 assists, while Hope Demarest and Devyn Glassgold each recorded five blocks.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers are now 15-33 all-time against PBA dating back to 1987.
  • Tech's last win against the Sailfish was October 1, 2010.
  • The team's 23 blocks are a season-high while the 57 kills tie for a season-high.
  • Erdmann recorded her fourth 20+ kill game of the season
