Boca Raton, Fla. – After nearly a month off from competition, the Florida Tech men's swimming team were back in the pool on Saturday afternoon for a Sunshine State Conference meet with Lynn at the McCusker Pool Complex. The Fighting Knights emerged victorious on the day by a score of 157-105.
Freshman Gavin Lanka earned his first career victory by taking the 1000 Free with a time of 10:21.39 that was over three seconds faster than David Armstrong, who finished second.
Daniel Aizenberg earned his fourth individual win of the season thanks to a 53.61 time in the 100 Back. Aizenberg also earned second in the 200 Back with a 1:59.11 finish that was only 0.15s off the top spot.
John Fonnotto took home his third individual win of the season with a 1:56.18 time in the 200 Fly that was seven seconds faster than second place Sean Catron. Fonnotto went on to finish second in the 500 Free thanks to a time of 4:51.81
Josh McLean (1:48.56) and Matthew Goembel (1:51.03) took second and third, respectively, in the 200 Free. McLean also took home second in the 200 IM with a 2:02.90 finish. . Jacon Sykora earned third in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:04.95. Max Martino finished second in the 50 Free with a time of 22.54. Nathaniel Allen grabbed second in the 100 Free thanks to a 50.38 finish. Colin Harrison (54.29) and Jacob Coutant (54.31) took second and third each in the 100 Fly.
In relay action, the group of Aizenberg, Martino, Reston Bartlett and Fonnotto earned second in the 200 Medley with a time of 1:36.14. The team of Aizenberg, Allen, Martino and Joshua Cajuste took second in the 400 Free thanks to a 3:19.00 finish that was just under a full second ahead of the squad of Armstrong, Goembel, Coutant and Bartlett in third place.
The Panthers will be back in action next Saturday January 21st at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center in Saint Leo for a Sunshine State Conference meet against Saint Leo beginning at 12 noon.
