Panthers Fall To No. 11 Eckerd Tritons

MELBOURNE, Fla.- Last week, the Panthers took down Embry Riddle to pick up their first conference win. Florida Tech looked to carry their momentum into this home contest against No. 11 Eckerd. The Tritons offense was too much for the Panthers and they fell 82-58.

FIRST QUARTER 
  • Coming off a career high performance last week with 28 points, Sarah Liberatore got off to a hot start when she drained a three pointer to give Tech a 5-2 lead.
  • Aiste Vaitekunaite drove hard to the basket for a layup and was fouled in the act for a chance at a three-point play. The Panthers were able to grab an early 8-4 lead with 6:33 to go.
  • Eckerd responded with a 5-0 run capped off by a three pointer to give the Tritons their first lead of the game.
  • Tech battled back with a pair of free throws from Dalma Ehmann and a layup from Lina Stranger-Johannessen for a 14-13 lead.
  • The Tritons scored the last eight points of the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER 
  • Trailing by nine, the Panthers were looking for some momentum. Divine Guthrie came off the bench to score her first points of the night on a layup.
  • Eckerd's offense was able to push their lead to 16 following a 7-0 run.
  • Liberatore cut the margin to 14 with a mid-range jumper. At the half, Liberatore led the team with seven points.
  • At the half, Tech trailed 45-23.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Eckerd continued their strong performance draining back-to-back three pointers to start the third.
  • The Panthers went on a 6-0 run with 3:28 to go.
  • Eckerd answered back with a 5-0 run of their own to extend the lead to 31.
  • The Tritons outscored Tech 21-12 in the third. 
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Liberatore hit her second three of the night and Remingtyn Smith followed with a layup to get the fourth quarter started.
  • With 2:49 left the Panthers found a little momentum scoring seven straight points.
  • Emily Acampora knocked down a three to end the game.

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Liberatore finished her night with 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
  • Acampora contributed eight points, and four assists.
  • Roberts added seven points, six rebounds, and three assists.
  • Stranger-Johanessen tallied seven points and two assists.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech is now 52-26 in the all-time series against Eckerd.  
  • Eckerd shot 49% (30-61) from the field, including 39% (12-31) from the three, and 67% (10-15) at the line.
  • Eckerd led in rebounds (42-28), second chance points (17-0), and bench points (34-20).
  • Florida Tech shot 36% (21-59) from the field, 33% (6-18) from behind the three-point line, and 77% (10-13) from the free-throw line.
  • The Panthers had eight steals while Eckerd had seven.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will travel to Lakeland to face Florida Southern on Saturday, Jan. 21st. Tip-off is set for 5:30PM.
