Fort Lauderdale, Fla.. – The Florida Tech Panthers volleyball team headed south to Fort Lauderdale for an SSC matchup against the Nova Southeastern Sharks. Despite a career high in kills for freshman
Cordelia Kearns, the Panthers came up short against the Sharks in four sets.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
First Set:
- Nova Southeastern began the match by taking a commanding 9-1 lead with Taylor Stockman tallying two kills to highlight the Sharks rally.
- Ashley Rally recorded the first kill for the Panthers to make it a 9-3 score.
- A small comeback saw Tech bring the set back to within four points with Cordelia Kearns capturing three kills with Rants recording two kills of her own making it an 11-7 set.
- Another run by the Sharks would see them jump out to a 20-10 lead highlighted by two kills apiece from Brittany Landrum, Nadia Lindner and Maddy Hooper.
- A kill from Kearns and service ace by Courtney Capar would look help the Panthers offense, but not be enough as the Sharks would win the first set 25-16, taking a 1-0 lead in the match
Second Set:
- Nova Southeastern started the second set out strong with a 7-1 lead thanks to kills from Stockman and Landrum.
- The Panthers would bring the set back to withing three trailing 7-4.
- A seven-point run by the Sharks would push them ahead 14-4 as Stockman recorded back-to-back service aces in the rally.
- A big 11-6 run by Nova Southeastern would give the Sharks their second win of the match as the Panthers trailed heading into the third set.
Third Set:
- Tech would look to spark some life into its offense taking a 2-0 lead in the third set following a kill and service ace from Danelli Mejia.
- Chiara Patelli would give tech a 3-1 lead before the Sharks would tie the set at 3-3.
- Kearns would give tech the lead twice following kills to allow the Panthers to have a 4-3 and then 5-4 lead.
- Nova Southeastern would regain the lead 6-5 and carry on to a 9-6 lead with kills from Lindner and Landrum.
- a kill and service ace by Patelli would tie the set at 11-11 before a kill from the Stockman of the Sharks followed by a kill from Devyn Glassgold would tie the set once again 12-12.
- A back-and-forth battle, both teams would continue to tie at 13,14, 15, 16 and 17 all as the Panthers would not finish the match without a fight.
- The tying points for Tech would come off kills from Kearns, Mejia, Patelli and Kearns again.
- After a Sharks service ace, Kearns would break the tying battle with a kill to put the Panthers ahead 19-17.
- Two kills from Nova Southeastern's Kate Mihacevich would tie the set 19-19 following two kills.
- Tied 20-20 after a kill from Kearns followed up by one from Mihacevich would be the final tie of the set as Tech would go on to score four straight points giving them a 24-20 lead.
- The four-point run was highlighted by kills from Maria Jesus Munoz and Devyn Glassgold.
- Mejia would score the final point of the set for the Panthers off a kill giving Tech a 25-21 set win and trail the match 2-1.
FOURTH SET:
- Tech pounced out in the fourth set to a 2-0 lead with the help from a Mejia kill.
- Nova Southeastern would take a 3-2 lead in the set before Capar would tie it at 3-3.
- The Sharks would go on to lead 8-4 before a kill from Kearns and service ace by Kelly Merz brought the Panthers deficit to one, trailing 8-7.
- The Sharks captured nine of the next twelve points to gain a big 17-10 lead with Lindner and Landrum capturing two kills each.
- Another run by the Sharks, this time scoring seven of 12 points would give them a 23-15 advantage in the fourth set.
- At match points, Kearns would keep Tech alive with a kill as the Panthers still trailed 24-16 before Nova Southeastern would score the final point of the match, giving the Sharks a 25-16 win in the fourth set and win the match 3-1.
NOTABLE PANTHERS
- Appearing in just three sets tonight, Cordelia Kearns recorded a career high 15 kills averaging five kills per set for a total of 15.5 points in the match, just 0.5 short of tying her career best in points.
- Jeanne Hassoun finished the match with 19 assists.
- Chiara Patelli put up three block assists against the Sharks.
- Kari Voelstad Bogen led the team with 13 digs.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Nova Southeastern lead the all-time series against the Panthers 25-22 and the away series with the Sharks record at Rick Case Arena improving to 19-10.
- Sharks have now won the previous eight matchups with the Panthers last win vs. Nova Southeastern being a four-set victory in Fort Lauderdale on five years ago to the date.
