Tech Celebrates Senior Day With Victory Over No. 19 Flagler

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team used two goals from Lauryn Wood and another from Savannah Oxley to put away the No. 19 Flagler Saints, 3-1, at home on Senior Day.
 
Before the match, 11 graduating seniors were honored for their contributions to the women's soccer program: Ayana Aoyagi, Josefine Nilsen, Marem Ndiongue, Katherine Cunningham, Kate Frazier, Jordan Beaudoin, Michaela Vaughn, Isabella Leon, Ashley Babiarz, and Taylor Padgett.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Both defenses were locked in to begin the match. With only one shot on target by Flagler in the first 15 minutes, but Ayana Aoyagi was there to make the save for the Panthers.
  • In the 16th minute, Marem Ndiongue stole the ball from the Saints on the offensive side of the field and dished a pass off to Lauryn Wood, who deposited her shot into the back of the net to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.
  • Just three minutes later, Andrea Fernandez notched the equalizer for the Saints to make it a 1-1 match.
  • After some back-and-forth for possession, Fernandez put two more shots on target in the 27th and 30th minutes, but Aoyagi came up with two saves to keep the match tied.
  • In the final two minutes of the match, Lydia Carroll threatened for Tech with a shot on goal but was unable to slip the ball past the keeper and the teams went into halftime with a 1-1 score.
  • In the second half, Wood broke away from Flagler's defense in the 54th minute and smashed a shot past the diving keeper to put the Panthers up 2-1.
  • Just four minutes later, Savannah Oxley drew a foul in the box and converted her penalty attempt to extend Tech's lead out to 3-1.
  • The teams battled for the next several minutes, trading shots and possession. The Panthers' defense held strong however and did not allow another shot on target and the match ended with a score of 3-1.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Florida Tech moves to 6-4-1 all-time against Flagler. This was the first win over the Saints since Sept. 24, 2008, when the Panthers won 3-0.
  • This was the first ranked win for Tech since they defeated No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne on Sept. 2, 2022.
  • Lauryn Wood scored two goals in one match for the first time in her collegiate career.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech's regular season finale will be on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at home against Florida Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field.
