Panthers Downed by Eagles in Halloween Night Matchup

MELBOURNE, FLA. – The Panthers hosted Embry-Riddle Tuesday for a Halloween Night match which saw the Eagles defeat the Panthers in three close sets.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

First Set:
  • Embry-Riddle started the match by taking a 6-1 lead on the Panthers early on.
  • Tech answered back to make it a two-point set, down 8-6 with the help of kills from Cordelia Kearns and Devyn Glassgold and a service ace by Jeanne Hassoun.
  • The Panthers tied the set at 11-11 following kills from María Jesús Muñoz and Ashley Rants.
  • Finding themselves down again 13-11 kills from Chiara Patelli and helped the Panthers take a 14-13 lead.
  • With both teams tied 17-17, three straight points by the Eagles put them ahead 20-17, highlighted by a kill from Jaden McBride.
  • As ERAU pulled ahead by four, 22-18, three straight Panther points allowed the Crimson and Gray to trail by just one, 22-21 thanks to a kill from Antia Vallecas Rodriguez and back-to-back kills from Chiara Patelli.
  • The Eagles soared to the end of the set though, scoring the final three points in a row to take the first set by a score of 25-21 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Second Set:
  • Tech trailed out to a 3-0 lead to start the second set before ERAU came back to tie it 3-3.
  • The Panthers would trail up until a service ace from Devyn Petrowski would give the Eagles the lead 7-6.
  • Embry-Riddle would take its largest lead of the set, ahead by only four points, 13-9.
  • Kills from Vallecas Rodriguez and Kearns would guide the Panthers to a 16-14 lead.
  • Tech would increase its lead 20-17 with kills being recorded by Rants and Kearns.
  • The Panthers found themselves in set point leading 24-22 before the Eagles tallied three points in a row to take the 25-24 lead.
  • The Crimson and Gray bounced back scoring two points from Patelli and Rants leading 26-25 and looking to close out the set.
  • Embry-Riddle answered back, tying the set 26-26 before scoring the final two points as the Eagles would win the second set 28-26 and go ahead in the match 2-0.
 
Third Set:  
  • The Panthers found themselves ahead early in the third set 3-1 as Lexi Lueger and Patelli both captured kills early on.
  • ERAU bounced back to take the lead 4-3 following a kill from Isabella Rujano.
  • With Embry-Riddle leading 6-5, the Panthers rallied off seven unanswered points to take control 11-6.
  • Slowly chipping away, ERAU would come back to trail by two 14-12.
  • A Kenzie Delacher kill pushed Tech ahead 17-14 before the Eagles took an 18-17 lead.
  • As the Panthers and Eagles battled for the third set, tied 22-22, Tech pulled ahead 24-22.
  • The Eagle bounced back however, and recorded four points in a row as back-to-back kills from Jaden McBride sealed the victory for the Eagles, winning the third set 26-24 and the match 3-0.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS
  • Cordelia Kearns in kills totaling 11 with one solo block and one block assist for 12.5 points.
  • Chiara Patelli finished the night with a .316 hitting percentage with nine kills and just three errors in 19 attempts while also leading the team with three total blocks, two solo, and one block assist.
  • Courtney Capar was Techs team leader in digs with 18.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Embry-Riddle now leads the all-time series against Florida Tech 17-16.
  • The Eagles have won 12 of the previous 14 matchups since the start of the 2016 season. 
     
UP NEXT:
The Panthers return to action this upcoming weekend on Friday, November 3rd when they travel to Boca Raton, Florida and take on Lynn University, Friday night at 7:00 P.M.
