Panthers Dominate Suns at Home

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's basketball team cruised to a 107-46 victory on Monday night at the Clemente Center to improve to 2-0 on the season.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST HALF:
  • Chase Thompson got the scoring started for the Panthers with a triple. His basket sparked a 16-0 scoring run to start the game. All five starters made at least one field goal during the run.
  • Kieth Wilson put the Suns on the board with a layup at the 14:37 mark of the half.
  • Thompson sank another three-point jumper to start another run for Tech. David McCullough capped off the quick 6-0 run with a fast break dunk to make it 22-2 with just under 13 minutes to go.
  • A 7-4 run for Johnson brought the Panthers lead down to 31-21 with 9:10 on the clock.
  • Tech went on another run over the next six minutes. Darragh O'Sullivan capped off the 12-3 run with a triple from the corner to make it 45-16 with 3:27 left to play in the first half.
  • Over the next minute, the Suns answered with a three-point jumper and layup to make it 45-21.
  • The Panther closed out the half on a 9-3 run highlighted by two baskets from Konstantinos Lagos to send the teams into the halftime locker room with a score of 54-24.
 
SECOND HALF:
  • Tech started the second half with a 26-3 and went a combined 10-14 from the floor during the stretch. Thompson highlighted the run with 11 of the 26 points to give the Panthers an 80-27 lead with 13:04 on the clock.
  • Two free throws from Helquis Pulido stifled the run for the Suns, but Rahsaan Edwards drained a corner three and converted a four-point play on the following possession for Tech.
  • Edward's four-point play started the Panthers on an 18-7 run over the next seven minutes. Lagos scored eight of the 18 points during the run.
  • A layup from Max Polk pushed the Panthers to 100 points on the night with 5:32 remaining.
  • Tech closed out the game on a 7-4 run to give the game its final score of 107-46.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Tonight's Player of the Game sponsored by Al's Trophy Shop was Chase Thompson. Thompson finished with a game-high 22 points and went 9-for-11 from the floor, including 4-for 6 from beyond the arc.
  • Rahsaan Edwards scored 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting and added eight assists.
  • Dave McCullough added 14 points and fell just one rebound shy of a double-double.
  • Konstantinos Lagos chipped in 13 points, two assists, and two steals off the bench.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 5-0 all-time against Johnson. The Panthers have won all five meetings by at least 25 points.
  • Chase Thompson's 22 points mark a career-high for the junior. His previous best was a 21-point performance against Nova Southeastern on Dec. 29, 2022.
  • Alex Kruska scored his first collegiate point with a free throw at the 3:56 mark of the second half.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will continue its homestand tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 21 when the Panthers host UPR-Rio Piedras. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Charles and Ruth Clemente Center in Melbourne, Fla.
