Panthers Lose a Close Game to Lynn on Senior Night

MELBOURNE, Fla.- Florida Tech women's basketball honored their four seniors during their last regular season home game Wednesday night against Lynn. The Panthers battled in a back-and-forth contest but lost 54-49.  
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER 
  • Lynn got on the board with a three followed by a layup to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
  • Back-to-back buckets by Tai Roberts and Makyla Daniels pulled Tech within one point.
  • A 9-0 run extended the fighting knights lead to 10 with 2:20 left.
  • Aiste Vaitekunaite's layup cut the deficit to eight.
  • Lynn outscored the Panthers 16-6 in the first.
 
SECOND QUARTER 
  • Grace Speer made back-to-back jumpers to trim the lead to just seven.
  • At the half, Roberts led the team with seven points.
  • Emily Acampora's three pointer cut the deficit to six with 3:34 left.
  • Lynn responding scoring four points to extend their margin to 10.
  • At the half, Roberts led the team with seven points.
  • The Panthers trailed 28-19 at the half.
 
THIRD QUARTER
  • Both teams were scoreless for the first three minutes before Farah Shaaban got things going with a put back jumper.
  • Right before the media timeout, Lynn went on a 6-0 run to push their lead to 12 with 1:52 remaining.
  • As the shot clock expired, Remingtyn Smith hit a three to end the quarter and give the Panthers the momentum they needed heading into the fourth.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Down by 10, the Panthers kept battling back. Stranger-Johannessen got Tech started draining both of her free-throws.
  • Lynn responded on the other end with a pair of free throws.
  • A defensive stop by the Panthers led to a layup by Divine Guthrie on the other end.
  • Sarah Liberatore's layup off the glass pulled the Panthers within six with 6:05 on the clock.
  • A technical foul on Lynn sent Vaitekunaite to the line for two shots. Vaitekunaite made both free-throws.
  • Guthrie was fouled on the following play sending her to the free throw line. Guthrie went 2-2 at the line and the Panthers were now within two points with 5:35 to go.
  • Another foul by Lynn sent Smith to the line. Both of Smith's free-throws were good and we were all tied up at 45.
  •  A free throw followed by a layup gave Lynn a three-point lead.
  • A three from Liberatore pulled Tech within just one 50-49.
  • Florida Tech couldn't find that last shot in the final minutes and Lynn would hang on to win the game.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech is now 32-23 in the all-time series against Lynn.  
  • The Panthers shot 31.4% (16-51) from the field, 17.6% (3-17) from behind the three-point line, and 73.7% (14-19) from the free-throw line.
  • Lynn shot 34.7% (17-49) from the field, including 12.5% (2-16) from beyond the arc and 85.7% (18-21) at the free throw line.
  • Florida Tech led in bench points (28-5) and blocks (5-1).
  • Lynn led in rebounds (35-30), points in the paint (30-18).
  • Both teams had 14 assists.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will be on the road for their final game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 25th at Tampa. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
