BOCA RATON, Fla.- Florida Tech had its first SSC road contest against Lynn this weekend. After falling 2-1 in the series opener yesterday, the Panthers looked to bounce back on day two. Tech took game one, 9-1 but the fighting knights defeated Florida Tech 2-0 in game two.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
GAME ONE:
Final: Florida Tech 9, Lynn 1
Records: Florida Tech (6-9, 1-4 SSC) | Lynn (8-5, 2-3 SSC)
Location: Boca Raton, Fla.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- Panthers took advantage of three walks and an error by Lynn to plate three runs in the first. A RBI single from Cheyenne Nelson drove in Ella Niles from second.
- Ella Gibson's sacrifice fly scored Nelson to give Tech a 2-0 lead.
- Mya Ogbodiewgu reached first on an error by Lynn's shortstop and Lewin added another run.
- Lynn added one run in the bottom of the 1st.
- Niles, Lewin, and Ogbodiewgu all had stolen bases in the 1st inning.
- Back-to-back singles from Kelly McLaughlin and Niles started off the 2nd inning. McLaughlin stole home and Niles stole third. Lewin's double sent Niles home from third.
- Gibson was caught stealing second, but Lewin's run did count, and the Panthers were on top 6-1.
- Another error by Lynn in the 4th inning, allowed Tech to plate two more runs and extend the lead, 8-1.
- Lewin's sacrifice fly in the 5th inning scored McLaughlin and extended the lead, 9-1.
- Alex Hendrian struck out 2 out of 3 batters in the bottom of the 5th inning to end the game.
- Hendrian picked up her second win of the season on 64 pitches with 42 strikes.
GAME TWO:
Final: Florida Tech 0, Lynn 2
Records: Florida Tech (6-10, 1-5 SSC) | Lynn (9-5, 3-3 SSC)
STATS OF THE GAME:
- Two miscues by the Panthers allowed Lynn to score two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.
- Florida Tech had an opportunity in the 6th inning with a runner on first and second, but the Panthers were unable to find that timely hit stranding two.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Florida Tech is now 61-28 against Lynn in the all-time series.
- In game one, the Panthers had seven stolen bases.
- Mikayla Lewin went 3-6 with two RBI's and three runs on the day.
- Cheyenne Nelson had three hits, one RBI and two runs.
- Ella Niles went 2-3 in game one with two stolen bases.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will be back home next Tuesday, Feb. 28 as they host Tiffin in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4PM.
