Panthers Earn Series Win over Mocs

LAKELAND, FLA.- Florida Tech played a doubleheader against Florida Southern Saturday afternoon. The Mocs took game one 4-3, but the Panthers responded in game two with a 4-1 win.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • The Panthers jumped on the board in the first inning. Ella Niles singled to right center and Cheyenne Nelson's ground out moved Niles to third. Jolie Miracle drove in Niles from third on a ground out.
  • The Mocs responded in the bottom of the 1st inning. They got things started with a double to center field followed by a single. A RBI single scored one run.
  • Florida Southern tacked on two more runs to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Mikayla Lewin's RBI single brought home Niles to cut the deficit to 3-2.
  • In the bottom of the 4th, the Mocs drove in another run on a RBI double to left center.
  • Pinch hitter Mary Polak started a rally in the top of the 7th with a base hit. Niles laid down a bunt and Polak advanced to second. Lewin drew a walk with two outs.  
  • Miracle hit a hard ball to third base that was caught and ended the game.
  • Alex Hendrian suffered the loss in the circle for Tech. She threw 2 innings allowing five hits and three runs.
 
GAME TWO:
Final: Florida Tech 4, Florida Southern 1
Records: Florida Tech (14-14, 4-8 SSC) | Florida Southern (11-10, 5-4 SSC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Through three full innings, neither team was able to score a run.
  • Florida Tech got on the board with a big 4th inning. Cheyenne Nelson got things going with a single to left center. Makayla Lewin's RBI double brought home Nelson.
  • Miracle laid down a bunt moving Lewin over to third. A double steal scored Lewin and moved Miracle up to second.
  • Mya Ogbodiewgu reached on an error allowing Miracle to score from third.
  • The Panthers put up three runs on three hits in the 4th.
  • The Mocs were able to score one run in the bottom of the 7th inning, but that would be their only run of the game.
  • Allison Platon picks her second win of the weekend for the Panthers. Platon pitched a complete game allowing just six hits and one run.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech is now 35-97 against Florida Southern in the all-time series.
  • Florida Tech has now won seven consecutive series versus Florida Southern.
  • The Panthers tallied 16 hits on the day.
  • Cheyenne Nelson's three hits on the weekend moves her into second place in career hits with 223.
  • Mikayla Lewin went 3-6 at the plate with 3 RBI's.
  • Mary Polak was 2-2 and scored two runs.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will return home next Wednesday, March 15th for a midweek doubleheader with #11 Valdosta State. First pitch is set for 4PM.
