Panthers Fall to No.10 Valdosta State Blazers

MELBOURNE, FLA- The Panthers hosted No.10 Valdosta State for a midweek matchup on Wednesday afternoon. Florida Tech fell in both games of the doubleheader, 12-2 and 12-3.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final:
 Florida Tech 2, No. 10 Valdosta State 12
Records: Florida Tech (14-15, 4-8 SSC) | Valdosta State (20-4, 10-2 GSC)
Location: Nancy Bottge Field | Melbourne, Fla.   

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • A solo home run by the Blazers put them on the board in the 2nd inning. A double down the right field line scored two more runs to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead at the end of the 2nd inning.
  • In the 3rd inning, Valdosta State tacked on four runs on four hits to take a 7-0 lead.
  • Mikayla Lewin's RBI double scored Nelson and Niles to cut the deficit to 7-2.
  • A bases-loaded walk in the top of the 5th inning scored another run for the Blazers.
  • The next batter up, Taylor Lewis hit a grand slam clearing the bases to give Valdosta State a 12-2 lead.
  • Allison Platon suffered the loss in the circle for the Panthers.

GAME TWO:
Final: Florida Tech 3, No. 10 Valdosta State 12
Records: Florida Tech (14-16, 2-8 SSC) | Valdosta State (21-4, 10-2 GSC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • A 2-run homer by the Blazers in the first inning put them on the board early.
  • In the 2nd inning, Valdosta State scored two more runs to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Another home run by Taylor Lewis in the 3rd inning gave the Blazers a 5-0 lead. Valdosta State would go on to score two more runs before ending the 3rd inning.
  • In the 4th inning, Valdosta State scored five runs on five hits to take a commanding 12-0 lead.
  • Jolie Miracle got the Panthers going in the bottom of the 4th inning. A double by Mya Ogbodiewgu scored Miracle from second. Miranda Schwartz followed with a single up the middle to score Ogbodiewgu.
  • A wild pitch would score Schwartz from third.
  • The Panthers were unable to score any more runs ending the game in the 5th inning.
  • Alex Hendrian took the loss for Tech.

UP NEXT: Florida Tech will travel to Winter Park, Fla. to face Rollins in a three-game series this weekend. The Panthers will play a doubleheader Friday, March 17th starting at 2 pm.
