DAYTONA BEACH, FLA.- After dominating the Eagles in game one yesterday, the Panthers were looking to win the series in a doubleheader today. Unfortunately, Embry-Riddle won both games to take the series 3-1.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 4, Embry-Riddle 6
Records: Florida Tech (17-18, 7-10 SSC) | Embry-Riddle (17-14, 4-7 SSC)
Location: Radiology Associates Stadium | Daytona Beach Fla.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- The Panthers got on the board early in the 1st inning. Mikayla Lewin was caught stealing, but Ella Niles was able to score from third base.
- In the 3rd inning, Niles scored on an error by the second baseman.
- Embry-Riddle scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take a 3-2 lead.
- Kelly McLaughlin reached first on an error to start the 5th inning. McLaughlin stole second.
- Niles reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop and McLaughlin took advantage scoring a run for the Panthers to tie things up 3-3.
- Jolie Miracle's double to left field drove in Niles to put Tech on top 4-3.
- In the bottom of the 5th, a RBI triple scored one run for the Eagles. A double down the left field line would score another run to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead.
- Before the inning ended, the Eagles scored one more run to take a 6-4 lead.
- Sam Guider suffered the loss in the circle allowing seven hits and six runs.
GAME TWO:
Final: Florida Tech 4, Embry-Riddle 5
Records: Florida Tech (17-19, 7-11 SSC) | Rollins (18-14, 5-7 SSC)
STATS OF THE GAME:
- In the top of the 1st inning, Layna Pollock drove in Niles on a sacrifice bunt to give Tech a 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles tied things up in the bottom of the 1st with a RBI double.
- Miranda Schwartz sacrifice fly drove in Mya Ogbodiewgu from third.
- Embry-Riddle responded in the bottom of the 2nd tacking on another run to tie things up 2-2.
- The Eagles scored two runs on two hits in the 3rd inning to take a 4-2 lead.
- Niles started the 7th inning rally by reaching first on an error by the third baseman.
- Pollock followed with a walk. Lewin flew out, but Pollock advanced to second on a throwing error and Niles scored on the play to cut the margin to 4-3.
- Jolie Miracle walked.
- Celeste Casillas would come in to pinch run for Miracle. Casillas took off for second base, distracting the defense which allowed Pollock to score to tie the game 4-4. Casillas was tagged out, but the Panthers were able to score two runs in the top of the 7th inning to keep them alive.
- The Eagles got things going with a single up the middle. With two outs and a runner on third, a RBI single up the middle scored a run and Embry-Riddle would take game two to win the series.
- Guider took the loss in the circle for Tech. She threw 2.2 innings giving up one run and two hits.
- Alex Hendrian started the game pitching four innings allowing four runs and five hits.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Florida Tech is now 12-10 against Embry-Riddle in the all-time series.
- Jolie Miracle went 4-6 at the plate with one RBI on the day.
- Miracle is currently on a sic game reached base streak.
- Ella Niles had three total stolen bases. Niles now has 19 stolen bases on the season.
- Niles scored five out of the Panther's eight runs.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will return home next Friday, March 31
st to face Eckerd. The first pitch is set for 6pm.
