Panthers Hold Off Lynn’s Comeback, Win in OT

 
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Men's Lacrosse saw an early lead slip away before the Fighting Knights forced OT with eight seconds remaining in regulation. Tech was able to hold off Lynn, winning the opening faceoff to take the first possession of OT and quickly finding the back of the net to grab the win.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER: 
  • Patrick Stewart got the Panthers going early off an assist Nicky Vreeland five minutes into the opening frame to put Tech up 1-0.
  • Less then a minute later, Noah Stecher put one up with an unassisted tally to make the score 2-0.
  • Austin Engeler found the back of the net on an unassisted effort to make it 3-0 with 3:42 remaining.
  • Lynn would get on the board in the final 1:30 to end the quarter 3-1.
SECOND QUARTER: 
  • Three straight for the Panthers would extend the lead 6-1 with 11:32 to go.
  • Collin Stewart got the run started less than two minutes into the period. Luke Policke scored a man-up off an assist from Zach Rozgonyi, and Vreeland got into the scoring mix with an unassisted goal.
  • Lynn tallied one more before Tech answered back twice. P. Stewart scored his second of the day on a feed from Rozgonyi, 8:14 to go.
  • Policke's unassisted goal pushed Tech to 8-2 with 3:44 remaining.
  • Three consecutive goals for Lynn cut into Tech's lead.
  • Nate Deplancke found the back of the net in the final two seconds to give Tech a 9-5 lead going into the break.
THIRD QUARTER: 
  • Goalie play picked up in the third quarter as neither team was able to register a goal until Lynn tallied one on a man-up opportunity with 1:51 left in the frame.
  • Lynn added one more in the final minute, cutting Tech leads 9-7.
FOURTH QUARTER: 
  • Fighting Knights outscored the Panthers 5-3 in the fourth quarter, including tying the game at 12-12 with 8 seconds remaining.
  • Jakob Terpak and Deplancke each tallied unassisted goals and C. Stewart recorded his second of the day on a feed from Deplancke.
OVERTIME:
  • Jack Maranto won the faceoff at the start of overtime to give Tech the opening possession.
  • With 3:26 left in the first overtime, Deplancke found Rozgonyi for the winning goal to hand Florida Tech its first conference win.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:  INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Lynn finished with an edge in shots (40-34) and ground balls (26-24).
  • Fighting Knights committed fewer turnovers (17-22).
  • Panthers were 24-25 on clears, while Lynn was 20-24.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Panthers moved to 7-3 all-time against Lynn. Tech has now won four of the last six matchups.
  • With his three assists on the day, Zach Rozgonyi moves up to 4th all-time in program history for career assists with 38.
  • Jax Francisco reached 100 career-saves.
