Johnson's Four Goals Not Enough as No.18 Embry-Riddle Outlast Florida Tech

Rachel Johnson recorded four goals in Floirda Tech's 14-9 loss against Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – The Florida Tech women's lacrosse team traveled to Dayton Beach on Saturday afternoon where they faced off against the. No.18 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Eagles.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: (RV) Florida Tech 9, (#18) 14 Embry-Riddle
Records: Florida Tech (8-4, 0-2 SSC) | ERAU  (10-1, 1-0, SSC)
Locations: Embry-Riddle Lacrosse Field | Daytona Beach, Fla.
 
FIRST QUARTER:
  • Embry-Riddle scored first to take the early lead.
  • Kayla Minton tied the game up off an assist from Sophia Scichilone
  • Scichilone then scored her first goal of the game followed by a goal from Rachel Johnson to put Tech up 3-1.
  • Both Scichilone and Johnson goals were unassisted.
  • The Eagles finished off the first quarter scoring three straight goals to go ahead 4-3.
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • ERAU started off the second where they left off scoring two more goals to make it five unanswered goals against the Panthers.
  • Jennifer Boyle would score for Tech with 7:15 to go in the second to trail 6-4.
  • Boyle would assist on Kayla Minton's second goal of the game as Tech trailed 6-5.
  • Minton would score again to tie up the game with 1:51 to make it a tied at 6-6 heading into the half.
 
THIRD QUARTER:
  • The Eagles scored first to take the lead in the second half of the game before Johnson tied it up again for the Panthers at 7-7.
  • Two unanswered goals by ERAU increased the Eagles lead to two.
  • Johnson would score again for Tech making it a 9-8 Embry-Riddle lead heading into the final quarter of the game.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Embry-Riddle scored first to make it 10-8 until Rachel Johnson's fourth goal of the game left Tech down by one with 11:58 remaining.
  • The Eagles would take a big lead scoring four unanswered goals to close out the game and take the 14-9 victory.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS
  • Rachel Johnson led the Panthers scoring charge with a total of four goals.
  • Kayla Minton recorded a hat trick finishing with three points.
  • Both Scichilone and Boyle finished with two points, each with one goal and one assist.
  • Maggie Reed led the team with four ground balls.
  • Millie Hurt recorded a team high three caused turnovers and tied a team high four draw control wins with Jennifer Boyle as each recorded four.
