Hendrian Goes Distance To Reel In Sailfish

Melbourne, Fla. - Playing for the first time in nine days, Florida Tech continued their winning ways on Friday night by outlasting Palm Beach Atlantic 6-1 in the series opener, extending their winning streak to six straight games.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 6, Palm Beach Atlantic 1
Records: Florida Tech (26-22, 14-14 SSC) | Palm Beach Atlantic (15-25, 8-20 SSC)
Location: Nancy Bottge Field | Melbourne, Fla.

STATS OF GAME:
  • Panthers starting pitcher Alex Hendrian worked out of a jam to start the game after surrendering a leadoff double to Daylin Hejtmanek. Hendrian recovered to retire three of the next four batters, leaving Hejtmanek stranded at second.
  • PBA would leave a runner in scoring position in the second and third innings, while Tech would leave one in the second.
  • The Sailfish would break through in the top of the fourth, beginning with Larken Maseda's leadoff single that saw her advance to second on a throwing error. Elisa Grande bunted Maseda over to third and would come into score following another error. Hendrian locked in and stranded Grande at second by retiring the next three batters.
  • Layna Pollock and Mikayla Lewin would both walk to lead off the bottom of the inning. Following a Jolie Miracle pop out, Chloe French's single down the left field line scored Pollock to tie the game and put two runners in scoring position after French advanced on the throw.
  • Ella Gibson's sacrifice bunt plated Lewin to put Florida Tech in front.
  • Miracle kept the lead in tact in the top of the fifth by throwing out Evoni Rodriguez at third to end the frame.
  • The Crimson and Gray would add insurance in the bottom of the inning, beginning with Miranda Schwartz being hit by a pitch to leadoff. Schwartz would advance to third on a pair of groundouts from Kelly McLaughlin and Cheyenne Nelson. An opposite field single to right by Pollock would double the Panthers lead.
  • After a walk to Lewin, Miracle's single to right would allow Pollock to score from first before Miracle was thrown out at second trying to stretch for a double.
  • French led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to center and would advance to third through a Gibson single and a Whitney Ellis sacrifice bunt. Schwartz's sacrifice fly to center would bring French home and a McLaughlin single plated pinch-runner Ella Niles to cap the scoring.
  • Hendrian earned her sixth win of the season by tossing her team-leading seventh complete game of the campaign, allowing just one unearned run on four hits in the process.
  • French and Miracle each recorded multi-hit efforts for the Crimson and Gray.
