No. 3 Spartan’s Offense Too Much for Panthers

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech scored eight in the bottom of the first to take an early lead, but the Spartan offense proved to be too much as they went on to take game one 22-11.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Tampa opened the scoring in the top of the first on a RBI single and a Panther error that allowed two runs.
  • Florida Tech answered back with eight runs on 10 hits in the bottom of the first.
  • Brett Kelly hit a 2 RBI single followed by a 3-run homer from Cole Patrick to take the lead.
  • A Gavin McGowan double scored Sam Schner and Tate Hansen to make it 7-3.
  • Jason Blackstone singled to right field to score McGowan for the 8-3 lead.
  • Top of the second, UT scored two unearned runs due to a Panther fielding error.
  • Spartans tied it up in the top of the fourth thanks to a groundout RBI followed by a two-run homer.
  • UT scored two more, taking the lead, in the top of the fifth on a RBI double and a wild pitch.
  • Tampa broke open the game in the sixth with five runs on four hits and one Panther error.
  • Blackstone scored the lone Panther run in the sixth on a Kelly groundout.
  • Gabe Garrett singled through the left side in the seventh to send Schner home and making it 15-10.
  • UT put up five runs on no hits in the eighth
  • Kelly hit a home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Spartans added two more in the ninth, extending the lead 22-11.
  • Garrett led with four hits, one run, and one RBI
  • McGowan finished with three hits, two doubles, and a home run.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Panthers move to 34-127 all-time against Barry.
  • McGowan hit his first home run of the season, while Kelly recorded his second home run of the season.
  • Blackstone extended his hitting streak to eight games and his on-base streak to 29.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech concludes the series with the Spartans on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Andy Seminick-Les Field.
