Panthers Shutout Warhawks in Season Opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team earned its first win and shutout of the 2023 season, 4-0, over the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks on Thursday night.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • In the 7th minute, Savannah Oxley ripped a shot into the lower left corner, but the AUM keeper came up with a diving save.
  • Minutes later, Marem Ndiongue smashed back-to-back shots off Warhawks defenders in the box, but the Panthers were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
  • In the 31st minute, Halla Helgadottir notched the first score of the season for the Panthers off a double assist from Daniela Tobon and Ndiongue.
  • Just nine minutes later, Ndiongue scored a goal of her own to give Tech a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • After the break, Eve Tiktikakis found the back of the net after a perfect pass from Josefine Nilsen in the 48th minute to extend the Panther's lead to 3-0.
  • AUM had an opportunity to get one back in the 59th minute after Laia Gonzales found some open space in the box, but her shot sailed just high and wide of the top left corner.
  • Tech kept applying pressure and broke through once more in the 77th minute after Sara Batchadji used a corner kick to find Ally Jaime in the box, who deposited the ball into the lower left corner to give the match its final score of 4-0.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 4-0-0 all-time against AUM.
  • Four different Panthers notched a goal in the match.
  • Marem Ndiongue led the Panthers with five shots, three of which were on target. She also added one goal and one assist.
  • Ayana Aoyagi recorded one save on the lone shot on goal by the Warhawks.
  • Tech's four goals were the most scored since the Panthers defeated AUM on Sept. 3, 2021, 4-1.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech continues its road trip on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Union University. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET) in Jackson, Tenn.
