Second-Half Comeback Earns Panthers Tie With Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla.- In a rematch of last year's Sweet 16, the No.3 Florida Tech Panthers and No. 12 Rollins Tars battled it out to a 3-3 draw in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night. Tech improves to 3-0-2.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The Tars controlled the game in the first half.
  • Rollins took the lead in the 20th minute on a goal by Nasar Tsaruk.
  • Tsaruk attempted to score again just two minutes later, but Iker Bastida came up with big save.
  • Five minutes later, in the 27th minute the Tars were able to convert another goal this time by Jorge Lameiras to go ahead 2-0.
  • Tech had an opportunity to score in the 32nd minute on a shot by Filippo Fazzi, but a nice save by Maximillian Obermeier kept the Panthers off the board.
  • Just before halftime, thing's got chippy as Tsaruk had another opportunity to score, but Bastida rushed out to get the ball when both players collided.
  •  Tech's keeper Iker Bastida received a red card and was ejected from the game. Parker Christensen would come in to replace Bastida.
  • At the half, the Tars led 2-0.
  • The Panthers came into the second half with some energy looking to get even with Rollins.
  • Filippo Fazzi snuck one past Obermeier on a rebound in the 49th minute.
  • Not even a minute later, a pass from Eytor Omarsson to Oskar Ihlen found Gene Lewis as he ripped a shot from outside the box that ended up in the back of the Tars net to tie the game 2-2.
  • All the momentum shifted towards Tech after those two goals from Fazzi and Lewis.
  • Tensions continued to rise between the two squads as the game went on.
  • In the 59th minute, another rebound allowed Logan Collins to score the Panther's third goal of the game and give Tech the lead.
  • In the 70th minute, Tsaruk's shot hit off the post and into the net to tie the game at three.
  • Neither team was able to find the game-winning goal in the final twenty minutes.
  • A total of eleven yellow cards were given out during the match.
  • Rollins outshout Tech 13-6, with 7 shots on goal for the Tars and four on goal for the Panthers.
  • The Tars had 10 corner kicks, while the Panthers had three.
  • Bastida recorded one save, while Christensen recorded three. Obermeier had one save.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech is now 17-30-6 in the all-time series record against Rollins.
  • Fazzi, Lewis, and Collins all scored their first goals of the season tonight.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will return home this Saturday, September 16th to open conference play against Nova Southeaster. Kick-off is set for 7:00pm.
