FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team fell to Nova Southeastern, 1-0, in its first Sunshine State Conference (SSC) match on Saturday night, snapping the Panthers' five-game unbeaten streak.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
- NSU was the first to threaten in just the eighth minute after Emery Biggs found enough space to get a shot off towards the bottom right corner. Ayana Aoyagi came charging up and was able to stop the shot to keep the game scoreless.
- Both teams went back and forth, jostling for possession for the next several minutes, but the Panthers were unable to get a shot off until the 39th minute when Ally Jaime's shot was saved by the Sharks' keeper.
- The battle for possession continued for the remaining minutes of the first half and the teams went into the break tied at 0-0.
- Savannah Oxley saw an opening in the 55th minute and ripped a shot from just outside the box, but NSU's keeper made a last-second save to knock the ball off target and make it ricochet off the crossbar and away from the net.
- A few minutes later, NSU put the pressure on Tech's defense and forced Aoyagi to make two more saves, but the Sharks broke through in the 73rd minute when Tabea Schutt used a second chance shot off an Aoyagi save to put NSU up 1-0.
- The Panthers didn't back down and applied pressure on the Sharks' defense. In the 83rd minute, freshman Sara Batchadji used a free kick to place her shot toward the top left corner, but the NSU keeper came up with another tip save to keep the lead.
- Tech was able to get two more shots off in the closing minutes of the match, but none could find the back of the net and the match concluded with a final score of 1-0.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Florida Tech moves to 9-14-1 all-time against NSU.
- The loss ends the Panthers' five-game unbeaten streak to begin the 2023 season.
- The Panthers put five of their six shots on target.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech's next match will be against Saint Leo on Saturday, Sept. 23 at home. The SSC contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field.
