Women's Volleyball Held Off by Lynn on Alumni Day

MELBOURNE, FLA. – The Florida Panthers volleyball fell to the (RV) Lynn University Fighting Knights on Alumni Day in four sets. Freshman Cordelia Kearns led the Panthers with 13 points and 12 kills.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

First Set:
  • Lynn started out the set taking a 4-1 lead highlighted by two kills from Aline Olegario.
  • Tech brought the set back to within two down 7-5.
  • Four unanswered points from Lynn pushed the Fighting Knights ahead to 11-5 with kills coming from Samantha Wolf and Dayana Chara.
  • The Fighting Knights continued their dominance through the first set pulling ahead 22-11.
  • A four-point rally brought Tech deficit to 23-15.
  • Another big rally by the Panthers saw Tech trail by just three points, 23-20.
  • The Panther's rally was powered by kills from Antia Vallecas Rodriguez, Cordelia Kearns, Chiara Patelli and Kari Voelstad Bogen who recorded a service ace in the point streak.
  • Paige Barash closed the set out for Lynn however, recording the final kill as the Fighting Knight won the first set 25-21 and took a 1-0 lead in the set.
 
Second Set:
  • The start tp set two was no different as Lynn pulled ahead 7-3 with two by Chara.
  • Patelli and Kearns helped the Panthers comeback to tie the set 10-10.
  • Seven of the next eight points would be rewarded to Lynn capped off by three back-to-back-to-back kills from Chara.
  • With Tech down 17-12, Chara tallied two more kills in the 5-1 run to help Lynn lead 22-13.
  • The Fighting Knights overpowered the Panthers in the second, however, closing out the set 25-15 and leading 2-0 in the match.
 
Third Set:
  • The Panthers found their stride in the third, batting back and forth with Lynn before a big four-point run with kills from Vallecas Rodriguez and Kearns put Tech ahead 9-6.
  • A service ace from Vallecas Rodriguez and three errors on Lynn put the Panthers up 15-9.
  • Lynn brought the set back to within one point down 15-14, with two kills each from Wolf and Olegario.
  • The Crimson and Gray answered back with eight unanswered points to lead 23-14.
  • The huge rally was led by kills from María Jesús Muñoz, Devyn Glassgold and Kearns with Jeanne Hassoun recording four set assists and two service aces in the rally.
  • The third was capped off by a kill from Muñoz and an attack error from Chara of Lynn to allow the Panthers to win set three 25-18 and stay alive in the match while trailing 2-1.
 
Fourth:
  • The Fourth set had the Panthers leading 7-3 to start the set with Patelli scoring three of the seven points for Tech from two kills and one service ace.
  • Lynn inches it way back to trail by two at 13-11.
  • Tech maintained its lead to come withing five points of winning the fourth set, still ahead by two at 20-18.
  • The Fighting Knights won the battle however as the final push from Lynn saw the team from Boca Raton, Fla. score seven points to finish the set 25-20 and win the match 3-1.
  • Lynn's final rally was powered by three kills from Wolf.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Freshman Cordelia Kearns led Tech in points and kills with 13 points from 12 kills and two block assists, finishing with a .184 hitting percentage.
  • Sophomore Devyn Glassgold was the Panther's most efficient player, finishing with a .385 hitting percentage.
  • Junior transfer, Jeanne Hassoun tallied 19 set assists to lead the Crimson and Gray.
  • Sophomore Kari Voelstad Bogen tallied 22 digs.
  • In the SSC, Chiara Patelli has the fourth-highest hitting percentage with .333. She has also played the most sets in the conference, appearing in 52.
  • Kenzie Delacher currently has the seventh most service aces in the conference with 18.
  • Courtney Capar has the eight most digs in the SSC with 188.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Lynn leads the all-time series against Florida Tech 28-22.
  • The Fighting Knights have won the nine previous meetings, with the past six coming in Melbourne.
  • Tech's last win against Lynn came back on September 28, 2017, in Boca Raton.
  • The Panthers last win in Melbourne over the Fighting Knights happened on September 26, 2015.
