Men’s Soccer Ties Saint Leo In Home Opener

MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Panthers hosted Saint Leo Thursday night for its first home match of the season. Ettore Casadei tallied his third goal of the season in the 1-1 tie.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • It was a physical match from the opening kick-off between the two teams.
  • Jacopo Ghezzi fired off a shot just seconds into the match, but Saint Leo's goalkeeper, Ricardo Ceballos came up with his first save of the night.
  • In the 4th minute, the Lions were able to sneak one past Iker Bastida to get on the board first.
  • At the half, the Lions led 1-0.
  • Tech had the next five shots of the match, but two were off-target and three found the hands of the keeper.
  • Ettore Casadei juggled the ball in front of the net before sending a shot into the back of the net off a Saint Leo defender in the 59th minute to tie things up 1-1. Nozomu Kamei and Eytor Omarsson assisted Casadei's goal.
  • The Lions raced down the field looking for open space in the 64th minute when Angel Ingrosso took a shot, but Bastida was there for the save.
  • In the 70th minute, Kamei had a good look, firing off a shot that was once again saved by Ceballos. Just minutes later back to back-to-back shots by Joeran Osland and Osvaldo Santana were both saved by Ceballos.
  • Bastida recorded one save, while Ceballos recorded 12 saves.
  • The Panthers held the advantage in corner kicks, 15-0.
  • Florida Tech outshot Saint Leo 26-2.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech is 24-14-2 in the all-time series record against Saint Leo.
  • Casadei scored the 8th goal of his career.  
  • Tech is unbeaten in their last nine matches against the Lions.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will be back at home this Saturday, Sept. 9 at 5:00pm to take on Flagler.
